About the Role
We are seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Designer to play a key role in the design and execution of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems for complex process plant projects. This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging, multidisciplinary designs while producing high-quality 2D CAD deliverables that directly support cutting-edge industrial and high-tech applications.
In this role, you'll collaborate closely with electrical engineers, instrumentation specialists, and other disciplines, review and integrate vendor and subcontractor documentation, and contribute to a safety-focused, innovation-driven engineering culture. You'll work with a high degree of independence while being supported by experienced engineering leadership in a growing organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical & Instrumentation Design
Develop basic and detailed designs for low- and medium-voltage electrical systems for industrial process plants
Produce high-quality 2D CAD drawings including:
Medium voltage switchgear single-line diagrams
Low voltage MCC and panelboard distribution diagrams
MV schematic diagrams and relay interface panel drawings
Prepare cable and conduit schedules, cable tray BOMs, layout plans, and section views
Develop grounding plans and grounding details for plant installations
Create electrical heat-tracing drawings and associated installation details
Instrumentation & Controls
Generate instrument location drawings and installation details
Design I/O panel wiring and layout diagrams, including power distribution
Prepare analyzer panel layouts and tubing schematic drawings
Design DCS panels, elementary diagrams, and instrument wiring diagrams
Specifications, Reviews & Coordination
Develop installation specifications for electrical and instrumentation systems
Review and integrate vendor drawings into project deliverables
Review subcontractor designs, wiring drawings, and RFIs for compliance with codes, datasheets, and specifications
Perform technical reviews of vendor quotations to confirm alignment with project requirements
Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, internal stakeholders, and external agencies to ensure seamless project execution
Interpret and apply Electrical Code requirements across all design work
Read and interpret P&IDs and incorporate them into electrical and I&C designs
Safety & Project Execution
Actively participate in safety training and safety programs
Follow all safety policies and promote a strong safety culture
Track progress, communicate issues, and report to Electrical Engineering leadership
Manage multiple tasks effectively while working with minimal supervision
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience in electrical and instrumentation design within industrial or chemical environments
Bachelor's or Associate degree in a technical discipline
Proven experience designing LV and MV electrical systems for process plants
Strong proficiency with AutoCAD or BricsCAD for 2D electrical and I&C design
Demonstrated ability to produce:
Single-line diagrams and schematic diagrams
Panelboard and MCC distribution drawings
Cable schedules, grounding plans, and heat-tracing drawings
Working knowledge of Electrical Code requirements and industry standards
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs
Familiarity with 3D plant models and coordination between 2D electrical design and 3D environments
Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Nice to Have / Preferred Experience
Experience supporting industrial gas production facilities (oxygen, nitrogen, argon, rare gases)
Exposure to high-tech or emerging energy projects, including hydrogen fueling applications
Strong attention to detail when reviewing vendor and subcontractor documentation
Comfort working in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment where versatility is valued
Self-motivated, proactive mindset with interest in taking on expanded responsibility
Genuine interest in cutting-edge process technologies and early-stage growth projects

This is a Contract position based out of Bedminster, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
