Job Summary
The Operations Manager of Laboratory Services provides leadership and operational oversight for the outpatient multi-site laboratory locations. This role is responsible for staff supervision, financial and productivity management, regulatory readiness, and coordination of operational initiatives that support efficient laboratory operations. The Operations Manager partners with the department Senior Administrative Director to collaborate with clinical leadership, external clients, and vendors to support service expansion, outreach growth, and continuous process improvement. This position ensures high-quality, compliant laboratory services while supporting strategic growth and operational performance.
Essential Functions
:
Provide day-to-day operational oversight of laboratory services across multiple clinical locations to ensure efficient workflows, high-quality service, and compliance with organizational standards. (20%)
Supervise, coach, and support laboratory staff through regular one-on-one meetings, performance management, professional development, and annual evaluations. Address employee relations issues in collaboration with Human Resources. (20%)
Monitor and manage financial performance across multiple administrative units, including budget preparation, expense monitoring, variance investigation, and productivity analysis to support responsible resource utilization. (15%)
Support strategic growth initiatives by coordinating operational planning for new laboratory sites, clinic expansions, and service line development. (15%)
Ensure ongoing readiness for regulatory and accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission standards, policy management, and coordination of survey preparation activities. (15%)
Develop, analyze, and present operational metrics including productivity, volume trends, turnover, and other performance indicators to support leadership decision-making and continuous improvement. This includes partnering with various stakeholders across the organization to address operational needs and initiatives. (15%)
Education
:
Bachelor's Degree Required
Master's Degree preferred
Work Experience
:
4-6 years Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership experience in laboratory operations, clinical laboratory services, or a related healthcare environment. Experience should demonstrate performance management, regulatory knowledge and the ability to interpret operational metrics to support continuous improvement. Required
Licenses
:
MLSASCP-Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent - ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
:
Knowledge of operational management and improvement practices sufficient to be able to accomplish assigned division objectives.
Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians, and the public
Ability to maintain quality control standards
Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
Ability to present to large groups and have quality public speaking skills
Ability to develop training and instructional material
Knowledge of electronic health records, Epic preferred
Proficient with project management tools and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
Skilled in decision making and analyzing data
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other internal and external team members to ensure timelines are met.
Ability to act as a resource to staff for operational and administrative questions.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, administration, and other departments.
Has emotional intelligence and quotient, professional communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills to set priorities and ability to work with high degree of accuracy and attention to details while responding to tight deadlines and multiple priorities and demands.
Ability to communicate positively and effectively both written and verbal to a variety of staff, managers, administration and other professionals.
