THE POSITION
Do you have a keen eye for detail and accuracy? If so, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, Insurance Actuary Review Division is eager to welcome you as an Actuarial Associate. Your strong analytical skills will be key to assisting in the application of actuarial and statistical principles and methods that relate to the analysis and evaluation of insurance rates, rating procedures and more. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Actuarial Associate, you will coordinate with other actuaries in the analysis and evaluation of life, accident, and/or health (L&H) rate filings, to ensure that proposed rates are not excessive, inadequate, or unfairly discriminatory and that the filings comply with applicable federal and state laws. This position assists in the rate review process to verify consistency of the pricing and product design to determine if filing is complete, equitable, and adequate. You can expect to correspond with insurers to obtain additional information, request revisions, and identify potential federal or state law violations. If a violation seems probable, follow up with the supervisor will be necessary. You will have the opportunity to assist actuaries to coordinate with policy examiners in the review of policy form filings to identify if benefits are actuarially sound or if policy form updates are needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Successful completion of the Actuarial Associate Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
One year of technical actuarial experience and an associate degree that includes 12 college credits in actuarial science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field;or
One year of technical actuarial experience and completion of two parts of the Society of Actuaries examination or Casualty Actuarial Society examination;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in actuarial science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
