Job Title: Industrial Painter
Job Description
This role focuses on preparing, painting, and finishing large equipment components to a high-quality standard using spray painting techniques. You will interpret work orders, mix and apply paints, enamels, and primers, and ensure all finished surfaces meet specified color, thickness, and appearance requirements. The position also involves maintaining paint equipment and work areas, and safely handling large parts using lifting systems in a busy manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Prepare all surfaces for painting, including cleaning, masking, sanding, buffing, and general surface prep as required by each job.
Read and interpret work orders to determine the correct color, @type, and amount of paint, enamel, and primer needed for each project.
Mix paints, enamels, and primers to match standardized and specified color requirements and ensure proper consistency for spraying or brushing.
Isolate painted and unpainted areas through proper masking and taping techniques, including taping doors and other components.
Apply seam seal to bodies and compartments, and verify proper application to achieve high-quality water sealing.
Apply a variety of coatings to working components to achieve a high-grade, decorative, and durable finish.
Ensure paint is applied at the required consistency and thickness to meet quality and specification standards.
Inspect painted surfaces and correct defects by smoothing rough spots, performing touch-up painting, and repairing surface imperfections as needed.
Maintain and repair all spray painting equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Clean and maintain the paint mixing room, air make-up units, and paint booths to support a safe and organized work area.
Operate and move large parts using company lifting systems, exercising extreme care to protect people, equipment, and finished surfaces.
Use blueprints, tape measures, and other tools to verify measurements and ensure components meet specifications.
Collaborate with other team members in the manufacturing shop to meet production schedules and quality standards.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of experience with spray painting in an industrial or similar environment.
Ability to accurately measure in feet and inches to 1/31" using a standard tape measure.
Proficiency in surface preparation techniques, including cleaning, masking, sanding, buffing, and general prep work.
Experience mixing and applying paints, enamels, primers, and other coatings to meet specific color and finish requirements.
Ability to read and interpret work orders and follow detailed instructions.
Skill in using spray paint equipment and paint sprayers safely and effectively.
Mechanical aptitude and experience with mechanical assembly tasks.
Ability to read and work from blueprints.
Familiarity with basic mechanical repair and tooling.
Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and other lifting systems for large parts handling.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with hydraulics and mechanical repair in a manufacturing or shop environment.
Basic understanding of electrical circuits as they relate to equipment and tooling.
Exposure to welding processes in a shop or industrial setting.
Comfort working with a variety of hand tools and power tools used in mechanical assembly and finishing.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.

Work Environment
This position is based in a large equipment manufacturing shop with an active, production-focused atmosphere. The facility operates Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with standard hours typically running from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Due to high demand, most team members currently work approximately 50 to 55 hours per week. You will work around large components and machinery, using overhead cranes and lifting systems to move parts. The environment includes paint booths, a paint mixing room, air make-up units, and standard shop equipment and tooling. This is a hands-on role in a manufacturing setting where safety, organization, and attention to detail are essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Crystal Lake, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
