Job Title: EMI/EMC Engineer
Job Description
This role provideS Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) expertise in support of U.S. Army research, development, and acquisition programs. You will perform hands-on EMI testing, develop test documentation, and influence system-level decisions for combat vehicles and other Army systems throughout their lifecycle. The position offers significant technical impact, close collaboration with government stakeholders, and the opportunity to train and mentor engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Provide subject-matter expertise in Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing in support of U.S. Army research, development, and acquisition programs.
Support the planning, development, integration, testing, and fielding of combat vehicles and other Army systems from concept through deployment.
Perform hands-on EMI testing in test chambers, including setup, execution, and troubleshooting of test configurations.
Author detailed EMI test procedures that comply with applicable military standards and customer requirements.
Write comprehensive EMI/EMC test plans and formal test reports that clearly document methods, results, and recommendations.
Apply and interpret MIL-STD-461 requirements during test planning, execution, and evaluation of system performance.
Provide Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) and spectrum supportability expertise to ensure system compliance and mission effectiveness.
Operate RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and network analyzers during test activities.
Support or conduct antenna testing and RF desensitization assessments to evaluate system performance in realistic electromagnetic environments.
Contribute to or expand support into broader EMC and E3 activities across multiple Department of Defense customers as needs grow.
Interface effectively with government customers, prime contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to communicate technical findings and recommendations.
Train, mentor, and uplift engineers on EMI/EMC testing techniques, standards, and best practices.
Participate in technical reviews and provide input that influences system-level design, integration decisions, and lifecycle planning.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 5 years of relevant Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) experience.
Hands-on EMI testing experience in test chambers, including test setup and execution.
Proficiency in authoring EMI test procedures and EMI/EMC test plans.
Demonstrated experience writing formal EMI/EMC test reports.
Practical experience with MIL-STD-461; ability to apply standard requirements in test and evaluation.
Strong understanding of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) and spectrum supportability.
Ability to operate RF test equipment including spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and network analyzers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and customer interaction.
Ability to interface effectively with government customers, prime contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Interest and ability to teach, coach, and mentor other engineers in EMI/EMC topics.
U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with Electrical or RF engineering preferred.
Experience with MIL-STD-464 is strongly preferred.
Experience in antenna testing and RF desensitization analysis.
Experience supporting Army acquisition programs or similar Department of Defense initiatives.
Demonstrated leadership in technical execution and ability to influence system-level decisions across integration and lifecycle planning.
Work Environment
Work takes place onsite at a Department of Defense (Army) customer facility in a collaborative, customer-facing setting. You will spend significant time in EMI/EMC laboratories and test chambers, working directly with RF test equipment and complex defense systems. The role involves frequent interaction with government personnel and prime contractor teams, requiring clear communication and a professional presence. Travel is minimal initially, with potential future travel of approximately 10-15% to Department of Defense test centers such as APG, YPG, and EPG. The environment emphasizes hands-on technical work, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to lead and mentor within an engineering-focused culture.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $71.88 - $80.00/hr.
