Job Description
The 3rd Shift Maintenance Technician supports a fast-paced automotive manufacturing facility by performing mechanical, electrical, and controls maintenance on a wide range of automated production equipment. This multi-craft role focuses on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic thermoforming presses, ovens, robotic waterjets, 3-phase motors, and Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs and HMIs. The technician will connect to equipment via laptop to diagnose programs and drives, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production systems across the plant.
Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
Safely troubleshoot live electrical panels and resolve electrical issues in a timely manner.
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems on hydraulic thermoforming presses, ovens, robotic waterjets, 3-phase motors, and other automated machinery.
Monitor, repair, and adjust manufacturing equipment and systems to maintain optimal performance.
Connect to equipment using a laptop to troubleshoot and edit drives and control programs as needed.
Edit and modify control programs on programmable devices such as Allen-Bradley SLC-500, ControlLogix, PanelView, and PanelView Plus.
Support problem-solving activities and participate in cross-functional groups focused on continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
Contribute to maintenance department initiatives aimed at achieving key performance measures, including uptime and safety goals.
Continuously learn and support various processes, including thermal forming, adhesive application, molding, isocyanate foam, high-pressure water, and assembly processes.
Operate powered industrial trucks, aerial lifts, and cranes safely and in accordance with plant procedures.
Use basic machining tools, powered hand tools, and other maintenance-related equipment to complete repairs and modifications.
Read and interpret machine drawings, electrical blueprints, and control schematics to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
Install, repair, and maintain electrical components, including wiring, conduit, and control devices.
Perform mechanical repairs involving hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and fabrication as needed.
Support installation, startup, and service of new or modified equipment and systems.
Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining robotic systems and controls (such as Fanuc, Motoman, ABB), when applicable.
Participate in and support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities to improve reliability and efficiency.
Work overtime and adjust to different production shifts when needed to support production demands.
Document maintenance work performed and communicate equipment status to supervisors and production teams.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of experience working in a maintenance department within a manufacturing environment.
At least 3 years of experience working with and maintaining automated machinery.
At least 1 year of experience in electrical troubleshooting.
Strong mechanical background with hands-on experience in industrial maintenance.
Proficiency in troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, including 3-phase power.
Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in a manufacturing setting.
Ability to safely troubleshoot live electrical panels.
Ability to read and interpret machine drawings, electrical blueprints, and control schematics.
Experience using basic machining tools, powered hand tools, and other maintenance-related equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and related control systems.
Willingness to work 3rd shift and overtime as needed, including some weekends.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Automotive manufacturing experience is a plus.
Experience with PLC troubleshooting on systems such as Allen-Bradley SLC-500 and ControlLogix is highly beneficial.
Ability to edit or modify control programs on programmable devices (e.g., Allen-Bradley SLC-500, ControlLogix, PanelView, PanelView Plus).
Experience with Siemens PLCs and HMIs is a plus.
Robot and robotic control experience (Fanuc, Motoman, ABB) is a plus.
Experience working with smart cameras such as Keyence or Cognex is a plus.
Electrical journeyman card is a plus.
Experience working within a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) system is a plus.
background in field service, equipment installation, and commissioning is beneficial.
Experience with welding, conduit bending, and general fabrication is helpful.
Ability to read and work from schematics, wiring diagrams, and electronics documentation.
Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.

Work Environment
This role is based in a large automotive manufacturing plant of approximately 300,000 square feet that produces interior sound-deadening materials for the automotive industry. The environment is extremely fast paced and highly deadline-sensitive, reflecting the demands of automotive production. The facility operates multiple shifts, with this position scheduled for 3rd shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Sunday night through Friday morning, and includes a shift premium for working nights. Other shifts in the plant include 1st shift (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday) and 2nd shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, Monday-Friday) with an additional premium. The plant typically operates around 50 hours per week, and team members should expect to work most Saturdays until staffing levels are fully met, with some Sundays required; work performed on Sundays is paid at double time. The facility uses a wide range of industrial equipment, including hydraulic thermoforming presses, ovens, robotic waterjets, 3-phase motors, PLCs, HMIs, powered industrial trucks, aerial lifts, and cranes. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
