Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on designing, developing, and supporting electromechanical equipment and test systems that enable advanced manufacturing and testing operations. You will design and validate test panels used to characterize actuators for laser-based shutter products, contributing directly to technology that is deployed in demanding applications, including space. The position combines hands-on electrical and mechanical design, troubleshooting in manufacturing and lab environments, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to continuously improve products and processes.
Responsibilities
Design equipment and fixtures that support manufacturing and testing activities, with a focus on electromechanical systems.
Design and validate test panels to test and characterize actuators for laser-based shutter products.
Design, develop, and support electrical and control systems for electromechanical equipment, including motors, sensors, actuators, and motion control components.
Work with servo and stepper motors, including motor characterization and torque curve analysis.
Select, integrate, and support sensors such as optical, proximity, and feedback devices in electromechanical systems.
Create, review, and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts to ensure accurate and reliable documentation.
Support PCB and motion control integration, including I/O-level troubleshooting with a hands-on approach.
Troubleshoot electrical issues in manufacturing, lab, and cleanroom environments, addressing power distribution, grounding, noise, and signal integrity concerns.
Develop and execute electrical test plans and validation procedures to verify system performance and reliability.
Perform structured root cause analysis using methods such as 5 Whys and 8D, and implement corrective actions to resolve issues.
Ensure electrical systems comply with internal safety requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in product design, manufacturability, and test effectiveness.
Contribute to mechanical assembly design and electromechanical assembly activities as needed to support product and test system builds.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline (BSME, BSEE, or equivalent).
Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical and electromechanical design.
Hands-on experience with electromechanical assembly and mechanical assembly design.
Experience working with motors, including servo and stepper motors, and performing motor characterization.
Strong understanding of actuators and motion control components.
Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Experience with electrical components such as diodes, capacitors, and transistors.
Ability to design and review panel layouts for test and control systems.
Experience with PCB and motion control integration and I/O-level troubleshooting.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical issues related to power distribution, grounding, noise, and signal integrity.
Experience developing and executing electrical test plans and validation procedures.
Proficiency in root cause analysis techniques, including 5 Whys and 8D, and implementing corrective actions.
Familiarity with internal safety requirements and regulatory standards related to electrical systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with torque analysis and torque curve development for motors and actuators.
Background in tooling design to support manufacturing and test processes.
Experience with hardware integration in manufacturing and lab environments.
Familiarity with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for electrical and panel design.
Experience working with sensors such as optical and proximity sensors and feedback devices.
Ability to create and execute detailed test plans for actuator and motor characterization.
Interest in building new, advanced technology, including products that operate in challenging environments such as space.
Mindset focused on continuous improvement, with a willingness to challenge existing processes and seek better ways of working.
Comfort working in a highly collaborative environment with teams across multiple sites and divisions.
Desire to build deep technical expertise and expand your skill set through hands-on work and learning opportunities.
Interest in pursuing ongoing development through certifications, tuition-supported education, and structured learning programs.
Work Environment
You will work in a highly collaborative, engineering-focused environment that supports advanced manufacturing, lab, and cleanroom operations. The role involves hands-on work with electromechanical equipment, test panels, motors, actuators, sensors, and control systems, using tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and PCB/motion control platforms. The culture emphasizes smart risk-taking, continuous improvement, and cross-team collaboration, with strong team tenure and meaningful, visible impact from your work. Professional development is actively supported through tuition reimbursement, certifications, and extensive hands-on learning opportunities. The products you support are heavily used in defense and aerospace applications, and you will work closely with defense contractors as part of your day-to-day responsibilities.
