Description
Job Title: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
Department: Quality
Location: Butler Weldments Cameron, TX
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Description Summary:
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) will integrate with production and is responsible for ensuring that all welding and fabrication activities meet applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications. This role plays a critical part to build in quality and ensure compliance throughout the production process by performing inspections, documenting results, and working closely with production teams to resolve issues.
Position Requirements
Responsibilities and Duties:
Promote and adhere to the Core Values and Behavior Code.
Perform visual inspections of welds and fabricated components in accordance with applicable codes (AWS, ASME, API, Tech-Pub. 271 & 278 including MIL Std 2035A, etc.)
Verify materials, welding procedures (WPS), and welder qualifications are compliant prior to production
Monitor in-process welding activities to ensure adherence to procedures and quality standards
Conduct final inspections and sign off on completed work
Identify defects, non-conformances, and deviations; document findings and communicate corrective actions
Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and documentation
Coordinate with welders, supervisors, and engineering to resolve quality issues
Support audits (internal, customer, and third-party)
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
Assist in developing and improving quality control procedures
Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or technical training preferred)
Minimum 2 years of welding inspection experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored)
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols
Experience with inspection tools and measuring devices
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a weld/fabrication shop environment
NDT certifications (UT, MT, PT, or RT)
Experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001, etc.)
Previous experience in a fast-paced production environment
This full-time position operates in a production environment. Physical effort consists of frequent handling of light to average weight tools or materials, some handling of heavy weights, some pulling, pushing. The employee must be able to lift and move items up to 30 pounds. Work performed requires constant alertness and activity, good eye/hand coordination and concentrated mental and visual attention.
