Job Description
The Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs production equipment and facility systems in a climate-controlled food manufacturing environment. This role focuses heavily on mechanical maintenance with light electrical work, ensuring equipment reliability, food safety compliance, and a clean, organized maintenance area. The technician supports production and quality teams by responding quickly to issues, performing preventative and predictive maintenance, and helping improve equipment uptime and safety.
Responsibilities
Lead by example by modeling the organization's mission and values in daily work and interactions.
Perform building and equipment repairs, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and facility maintenance as needed.
Maintain and repair food production equipment, focusing primarily on mechanical troubleshooting of smaller components.
Use an electronic maintenance system (e-maintenance) to manage equipment records, preventive maintenance processes, parts ordering, and predictive maintenance activities.
Implement and follow preventative and predictive maintenance procedures to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Maintain an accurate inventory of repair equipment, supplies, and tools, ensuring availability for maintenance tasks.
Keep maintenance areas organized, clean, and in full compliance with all food safety and sanitation requirements.
Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment in coordination with the Maintenance Manager.
Respond quickly to equipment or facility emergencies, notify appropriate personnel, and strictly follow established safety protocols.
Identify and propose hygienic equipment design improvements to eliminate waste, increase equipment uptime, and enhance employee safety.
Regularly clean, organize, and maintain tools in a lean and efficient manner.
Perform additional maintenance tasks and projects as requested by management.
Collaborate closely with production and quality departments to schedule and complete maintenance with minimal disruption to operations.
Troubleshoot and repair conveyors, mixers, lifts, and roller grill machines (including components such as clutches and drive valves).
Support minor production equipment repairs and basic facility maintenance tasks.
Follow all food-grade maintenance practices, including sanitizing equipment and work areas before and after work and complying with quality inspections.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance and repair in a production or manufacturing environment.
HVAC experience, including basic troubleshooting and maintenance.
Electrical experience with light electrical work, including familiarity with 240V systems.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical components on food production or similar equipment.
Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair.
Ability to read and work from schematics and technical documentation.
Experience with preventive maintenance and maintenance repair practices.
Capability to perform facilities maintenance tasks as needed.
Comfort working with maintenance planning tools or e-maintenance systems to track work orders, preventive maintenance, and parts.
Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical issues in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work area and follow strict sanitation procedures.
Willingness and ability to work overnight hours and occasional Saturdays as required to support production.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in food manufacturing or maintenance in a food-grade environment is highly beneficial.
Experience in general manufacturing maintenance or as a plant technician with small component work is strongly transferable.
Automotive maintenance experience is helpful for mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
HVAC experience is a plus for facility and equipment support.
Basic understanding of PLCs is acceptable, but deep PLC programming experience is not required.
Ability to work independently for portions of the shift while maintaining communication with the maintenance team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and compliance with procedures.
Ability to collaborate effectively with production, quality, and other departments.

Work Environment
The role is based in a climate-controlled food manufacturing facility. Training begins on first shift, followed by training on second shift, with the permanent schedule on third shift from approximately 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed to support production and equipment demands. The Maintenance Planner typically works from early morning to mid-afternoon, and the Maintenance Manager works standard daytime hours, with the technician working independently for the last portion of the shift but able to reach the manager quickly if needed. The work involves troubleshooting and repairing production equipment such as conveyors, mixers, lifts, and roller grill machines with clutches and drive valves, as well as minor production equipment and facility systems. The facility operates under strict food safety standards, with quality assurance inspecting work for food-grade compliance. All maintenance tasks require sanitizing equipment and work areas before and after work, and following detailed procedures and documentation. The dress code includes wearing smocks, hair nets, and other food safety-related protective gear, with an emphasis on cleanliness, organization, and adherence to sanitation and safety protocols.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
