Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Power ElectronicsJob Description
This role focuses on the end-to-end design and development of advanced power electronics systems and hardware, from concept through production. You will design high-power, high-efficiency converters, create PCB layouts, develop packaging and thermal solutions, and validate high-voltage, high-current proto@types. Working in a dynamic startup environment, you will directly influence product architecture, support manufacturing, and contribute to continuous improvement while working on cutting-edge technologies in power electronics.
Responsibilities
Develop power electronics systems using digital control for high-current, high-power, high-efficiency converter applications.
Design analog and digital circuits for AC-DC and DC-DC converters, with approximately 70% focus on analog design and 30% on digital design.
Create and optimize PCB designs and complete PCB layouts using professional electronic design automation tools.
Develop electronics packaging and thermal management solutions for complex, high-power electronic boards.
Analyze controller and power converter solutions for permanent magnet electric machines and AC-DC motor control applications.
Perform detailed system analyses to evaluate and select power semiconductor devices for specific target applications.
Define power semiconductors and optimize gate driver circuits and busbar designs for high-voltage and high-current operation.
Conduct high-voltage tests up to 1,000 V and high-current tests up to 1,000 A to validate design performance and reliability.
Validate the performance of proto@types and refine designs to prepare products for final release.
Provide engineering support to production, including troubleshooting hardware issues and supporting full product life cycle activities.
Assist in planning, executing, and documenting tests required for product compliance and qualification.
Develop test plans, test procedures, and test solutions to verify and validate power electronic designs.
Document design reports, test results, and failure analysis findings in a clear and organized manner.
Actively contribute to the continual improvement of internal engineering and development processes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability, quality, and performance of power electronic products.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering.
At least 3 years of industry experience in electronics hardware design.
5-10 years of hands-on experience in analog design, digital design, power supply design, PCB layout, and use of Altium or similar PCB design tools.
In-depth understanding and practical working knowledge of switching power converters.
Demonstrated ability to develop concepts and product designs for high-current, high-power (greater than 200 kW), high-efficiency and high-power-density converter systems.
Proven experience designing AC-DC and DC-DC converters and associated control circuitry.
Ability to take designs from concept to architecture to detailed design and through full product life cycle.
Strong knowledge of power conversion topologies and the ability to simulate and model designs.
Familiarity with EDA tools such as Ansys IcePak, LTspice, Altium, RapidHarness, MATLAB, and Python.
Experience developing test plans, test procedures, and test solutions for power electronic systems.
Deep understanding of magnetics, including inductor and transformer modeling, magnetization inductance and current, leakage inductance, intra-winding and inter-winding capacitance, self-resonant frequency, core characteristics and limitations, core saturation, core loss, high-frequency losses, and winding techniques for optimized magnetics.
Experience with power supply design, PCB layout, and AC-DC motor control in a full life cycle development environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Firmware development experience for the TMS320 family of microcontrollers.
Familiarity with electric power component procurement processes.
Knowledge of printed circuit board manufacturing, assembly, and test processes.
Understanding of metallic and plastic materials machining processes.
Experience with finish coating materials and processes for electronic assemblies.
Record of patents and publications related to power electronics or related fields.
Industry experience in aerospace or defense environments.
Technical leadership experience, including guiding projects or mentoring other engineers.
Experience working in high-growth or startup environments.
Interest in or experience with equity participation in early-stage companies.
Work Environment
The role is based in a fast-paced startup environment where you work closely with a small, highly collaborative engineering team focused on innovative power electronics solutions. You will use modern EDA and simulation tools such as Ansys IcePak, LTspice, Altium, RapidHarness, MATLAB, and Python, along with laboratory equipment for high-voltage and high-current testing. The work involves full product life cycle activities, from design and simulation through prototyping, testing, and support to production. The environment encourages hands-on experimentation, continuous improvement, and technical ownership. A sign-on bonus, relocation support, and the opportunity for an equity stake in the company are available, reflecting a culture that values long-term contribution and shared success.
