Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Physical Therapist, you play a vital role in helping patients regain strength, restore mobility, and rebuild confidence following illness, injury, or surgery. Your role will include:
Evaluating patient abilities and developing personalized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and the care team
Delivering evidence-based interventions that restore movement, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life
Monitoring progress, refining therapy plans, and ensuring accurate, timely documentation of outcomes
Educating patients and families on exercise programs, adaptive techniques, and safe practices that promote independence
Collaborating across disciplines to ensure cohesive, patient-centered care and smooth transitions throughout recovery
Leading by example-mentoring therapy assistants or students while upholding HCA Healthcare's values of excellence, compassion, and integrity
Creates an environment and culture that enables the Rehabilitation Department to fulfill the mission of the hospital and meet or exceed its goals.
Provides input into strategic development initiatives and is responsible for the implementation of the Rehabilitation Department's strategic plan.
Responsible for the financial viability of the Rehabilitation Department, coordinating the submittal of accurate and timely billing and clinical information.
Develops and strives for achievement of financial objectives, including the implementation of budgetary guidelines.
Supports the Therapy Services Manager in managing the resources of the Rehabilitation Department in an ethical, viable manner.
Provides input for the negotiation of rehabilitation specific rates in negotiated payment structures/contracts.
In collaboration with the Medical Director and other clinical staff, assures the development of quality rehabilitation programming to meet market needs.
Collaborates effectively with all members of the rehabilitation team within the Rehabilitation Department as needed.
Works with the Therapy Services Manager to ensure the supply of appropriate resources to support the programs, services, organizational structure and staffing levels necessary for quality rehabilitation services. Coordinates as necessary with rehabilitation counterparts.
Implements operations and processes to support, facilitate, and maintain uniform performance of rehabilitation care including documentation.
Provides a safe, secure, and infection/hazard-free environment. Supports the Therapy Services Manager in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the quality management plan for the Rehabilitation Department.
The physical therapist supports interdepartmental performance-improvement/customer satisfaction activities.
Demonstrates high ethical standards in customer service through all interactions with the patients, families, coworkers, staff, other hospital departments, physicians, community and all others.
Creates a high quality, professional clinical environment to facilitate the necessary recruitment of appropriate numbers of qualified staff.
Performs positive specific job function at an acceptable level.
Ensures patient dignity and respects patient values.
Operates within ethical standards.
Able to assess and reassess the needs of the patient.
Proper documentation of assessments.
Able to communicate needs of patients.
Provides on-site assessment for potential patients for the facility.
May consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential Rehab Unit patients.
Develops back up system to handle calls when he/she is unavailable.
Develops system that ensures calls are appropriately handled twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven days a week.
Participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
Communicates pertinent payer needs/requirements to physician, treatment team, patient and patient's family in a timely manner.
Provides ongoing education to patient and family as needed.
May coordinate the admission process to the Rehabilitation Unit and communicate pertinent information to all involved parties.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, payer representatives, hospital administration, community members, and referral sources.
May follow up on contacts made for potential admissions when an admission does not take place to determine reason for non-admission.
Assists in alternative placement recommendations when patient not appropriate for admission.
Communicates results and trends to supervisor.
Provides feedback to supervisor on ongoing basis in regard to concerns, improvements, changes, etc.
Identifies areas needing improvement and utilizes the facility performance process. Actively participates in comprehensive program evaluation system.
Proposes new policies and procedures that will make the admission process smooth, more comfortable and more effective for patients.
Serves as an educational resource to patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, payor representatives, physicians, discharge planners, therapists, community members, and other parties as appropriate regarding rehabilitation issues.
Works with supervisor to ensure the program meets all local, state, and TJC regulatory standards.
Represents the Rehabilitation Department in appropriate hospital committees.
What qualifications you will need:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physical Therapy
State licensure
BLS
Direct rehab experience; one year or more preferred, involving extensive knowledge of rehab/criteria
Excellent interpersonal skills/communication skills
Excellent organization/time management skills
Excellent customer service skills; professional appearance
Experience in providing educational programs
