The Accessioner I supports critical overnight laboratory operations by receiving, verifying, and preparing clinical specimens for testing in a high-volume diagnostics environment. This full-time, contract-to-hire role is based onsite in Calabasas Hills, CA, on a consistent 3rd shift schedule. Responsibilities
Receive incoming clinical specimens and verify that all required information and documentation are present and accurate.
Log and accession specimens into the laboratory information systems with precise and timely data entry.
Confirm patient identifiers and sample details to ensure accuracy and completeness before processing.
Prepare and label specimens for testing in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines.
Perform hands-on bench work to support specimen handling, processing, and workflow in the laboratory.
Track samples and update internal systems to maintain clear, accurate records of specimen status and location.
Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area that meets laboratory quality and safety standards.
Follow detailed standard operating procedures consistently to support reliable and repeatable laboratory processes.
Work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, high-volume, production-style lab environment.
Collaborate with overnight team members to meet nightly production and turnaround time goals.
Support a regulated diagnostics environment by adhering to compliance requirements and quality expectations.
Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to ensure consistent coverage for the overnight shift.
Perform repetitive tasks with sustained focus and attention to detail throughout the duration of the shift.
Communicate clearly with colleagues and leadership regarding specimen issues, discrepancies, or workflow concerns as they arise.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or GED.
Ability to consistently work 3rd shift hours (10:00 PM - 6:30 AM, Thursday through Monday, including weekends).
Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately follow standard operating procedures.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume, production-style laboratory environment.
Comfortable standing for long periods and performing repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
Basic computer skills, including data entry, tracking samples, and navigating internal systems.
Ability to perform hands-on bench work in a laboratory setting.
Reliable attendance and punctuality, especially critical for overnight coverage.
Dependability and a strong sense of responsibility for supporting patient testing and medical decisions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
AA or AS degree in a science-related field strongly preferred.
Preferred education in Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related scientific field.
Prior exposure to regulated or laboratory environments is a plus.
Experience with specimen handling, specimen labeling, or accessioning is beneficial.
Experience in data entry, healthcare, diagnostics, or clinical operations is advantageous.
Familiarity with CLIA-regulated or other compliance-driven environments is helpful but not required.
Prior experience working overnight or weekend shifts is a plus.
Interest in building a long-term career in laboratory operations, diagnostics, or healthcare.
Work Environment
This role is fully onsite in Calabasas Hills, CA, on a stable 3rd shift schedule from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, Thursday through Monday, with weekends required. The position is based in a regulated diagnostics laboratory that operates at a high volume and follows strict standard operating procedures and compliance requirements. You will work in a production-style lab environment that is quieter than daytime operations, with fewer daytime distractions and a tight-knit, process-focused overnight team. The work involves standing for extended periods, performing repetitive tasks, and conducting hands-on bench work with clinical specimens while using computer systems for data entry and sample tracking. The schedule is consistent and predictable, with no rotating shifts, and includes an overnight shift differential. Pay and Benefits
