What Warehouse Operations contributes to Cardinal Health
Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.
Warehouse Operations is responsible for performing/controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of product. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and efficient delivery of products to customers while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with experience in logistics, warehouse operations, people leadership, and continuous improvement.
Job Summary
The Outbound Manager, Warehouse Operations oversees the building's outbound processing, including picking, packing, and shipping to achieve operational efficiency and safety. Through successful operational and people management, this job delivers on the business unit's short-term goals, improves profitability, and develops the business unit's warehouse talent. This job also responds to urgent customer needs or supply disruptions to ensure customer commitments are fulfilled.
Location/Shift
Location: This is an on-site position (5 days a week) based out of Cardinal Health's Hudson, WI distribution center
Night Shift Support: Sunday-Thursday Night Shift: Schedule assignment will vary based on work demands. Must be able to provide adequate support for associates working Sunday-Thursday nights from 6:00pm-2:30am (or until finish).
Responsibilities
Strategic Operations Management: Oversee and optimize all daily outbound processing, including order fulfillment, picking, packing, and shipping, ensuring timely, accurate, and budget-compliant distribution to customers and partners.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of 3 direct-report supervisors and approximately 75 indirect-report associates, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement: Drive operational excellence by identifying and implementing process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies, while monitoring KPIs to enhance productivity, accuracy, and service levels.
Safety Leadership & Compliance: Manage all safety trainings and procedures, ensuring warehouse operations are in compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Proactively mitigate risks and enforce Cardinal Health compliance with OSHA, DEA, FDA, state, and local authorities, serving as the shift point of contact for QRA compliance and EHS .
Regulatory & Policy Adherence: Ensure stringent adherence to all regulatory and company policies, especially within a healthcare environment.
Financial & Resource Stewardship: Manage site financial metrics (P&L, budgets), labor planning, staffing levels, and scheduling to meet dynamic business demands.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technology Integration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (inventory, inbound operations, transportation, quality assurance) and leverage Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other technologies to optimize operations.
Active Engagement & Travel: Participate actively in scheduled internal and external meetings, with up to 25% travel.
Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience preferred
Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
3+ years supervisory/management experience, preferred
Possess strong communication and relationship building skills (i.e., has the ability to manage change)
Experience working within a warehouse (or distribution) environment, preferred
Inventory planning and processing experience, preferred
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel (Pivot Tables and spreadsheets)
Experience working within ERP's (SAP or Manhattan), preferred
Prior experience with continuous improvement projects and initiatives
Adaptable to operational needs
Ability to problem solve through complex scenarios and drive change
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to bend, reach, stoop, lift and stand for entire shift
Proficiency in English is required, including being able to read and write in English in order to process
documents
