About the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS):

The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) is a statewide museum system with 12 locations, including a central museum based in Indianapolis. Role Overview:

The Intermittent Early Childhood Summer Program Assistant helps with summer camps and programming.

This position is scheduled for May 2026 - August 2026 for an average of 20 hours per week.

Current dates include:

May 2 and 9: Training

June 1: Event TBA

June 8 - 12: Camp, 8:30am - 12:30 pm or 9:30 am - 1:30pm

June 15: Event TBA

June 20: Event, 9:30am - 5:30pm

June 22 - 26 Camp, 8:30am - 12:30 pm or 9:30 am - 1:30pm

July 13 - 17 Camp, 8:30am - 12:30 pm or 9:30 am - 1:30pm

July 22 - 23 Camp, 8:30am - 12:30 pm or 9:30 am - 1:30pm

Additional days will be available as programs are scheduled.

Salary:

Salary traditionally starts at $16.73 per hour.

A Day in the Life:

Responsibilities Include:

Assist with facilitating camp activities and encouraging youth in hands-on activities. Modify program activities as needed to better meet the needs of each child.

Assist with preparing materials and coordinating supplies for camp and program activities.

Supervise incoming 4-6 year old campers and follow museum and camp procedures.

Mentor and encourage experimentation and creativity in children through open-ended, sensory, STEM, and art activities.

Model leadership, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn and explore with visitors.

Assist with set-up and clean-up of activities including before and after games and activities.

Assist with evaluating activities and share feedback with the early childhood program manager.

Provide a safe environment for play, learning, and discovery with children and their adults.

What You'll Need for Success:

High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree or degree-seeking preferred.

Experience working with preschool and toddler-aged children.

Strong communication skills with both children and adults.

Excellent public speaking skills, enthusiasm, and creativity while interacting with visitors of all ages and abilities.

Collaborative personality and a team player.

Ability to maintain visitor safety and wellbeing.

Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
