The ASF COE drives modern software delivery across programs by leveraging Agile best practices, scalable architectures, DevSecOps, and emerging AI-enabled development approaches. As a Junior Developer, you will contribute to building and enhancing software solutions that support critical customer missions while growing your technical skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
This role follows a hybrid schedule, with an expectation of possibly working onsite 2-3 days per week based on stakeholder needs.
Responsibilities:
You will serve as an Agile team product member providing software development and maintenance for the delivery of releasable software in short sprint cycles. You will work on activities related to the delivery of software solutions associated with customer-defined systems and software projects by working in close collaboration with software developers/engineers, stakeholders, and end users within Agile processes.
Designing, developing, and implementing custom software and database application capabilities for a variety of legacy and modernized systems with limited oversight
Acting as a member of an agile product team supporting teammates and collaborating with a do-what-it-takes attitude to ensure product and team success (do-what-it-takes means that you will not just be a software developer); you will be a product team member responsible for pitching in to do whatever is needed/necessary to produce a potentially-shippable product, to include testing, creating documentation, providing training/creating training content, and supporting Scrum Master and/or Business Analyst duties
Providing improvements to the product(s) being supported
Actively participate in release and sprint planning, backlog refinement, artifact creation, sprint testing, regression testing, demonstrations and retrospectives, software deployments (i.e., releases to production), and operations and maintenance of deployed software (i.e., production support)
Analyzing complex project-related problems and creating innovative solutions involving, scheduling, technology, methodology, tools and solution components
Ensuring product quality and timeliness of work, providing advice and guidance, resolving problems to meet objectives, and providing periodic performance reports
Lead cross-functional Agile teams to deliver software initiatives from concept through deployment, ensuring alignment with mission and customer priorities
Drive planning and execution of key initiatives, coordinating across engineering, product, and stakeholder teams to meet delivery timelines
Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
Partner with Product Owners to ensure a well-refined, prioritized backlog aligned to business value
Qualifications:
Required:
Must be a U.S. Citizen, with or eligible for a Government security clearance
College degree (B.S.) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Management Systems or a related discipline.
Professional Experience: at least one (1) year related technical experience, with software design, development, and implementation
Desired:
·Experience with Java, Spring Boot, or similar backend frameworks
Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle and basic SQL
Exposure to RESTful APIs and web services (JSON/XML)
Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit) or automated testing practices
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps concepts
Experience with Agile tools such as Jira
Exposure to containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) or cloud environments
Interest in AI-assisted development tools and modern software engineering practices
Experience with or willingness to use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code generation, prompt engineering, AI copilots) as part of daily development workflows

Pay Range :
There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
$66,700 - $133,300
