About the Work Unit:
The Office of Environmental Justice ("OEJ") seeks to advance environmental justice in Colorado and implement statutory environmental justice mandates, including specific benchmarks and targets established by the Environmental Justice Act. We work in partnership with disproportionately impacted communities ("DI communities"); the Environmental Justice Advisory Board ("EJAB"); other federal, state, local, and tribal government partners; and offices and divisions with CDPHE. Our role includes meaningful engagement of DI communities; administering the Environmental Justice Grants Program and Supplemental Environmental Projects; partnering with the Water Quality Control Division to implement the Mobile Home Water Quality Act; providing high-quality spatial analysis and mapping through Enviroscreen and the DI Communities Map; and facilitating community Environmental Equity and Cumulative Impact Analyses.

Project Title: Internship - Cumulative Impact Resource Library
Salary:This internship is paid $800.00 monthly.
Project Description:
This internship will support the development of an online Cumulative Impact Resource Library where community members and partner organizations can access data sets and research studies that may be useful for cumulative impact work, and also search examples of cumulative impact policies and publications from around the country. The work will include: supporting OEJ staff on the design, structure, and inclusion criteria for the library, including developing a structured documentation approach that captures key dataset characteristics and considerations for use (e.g., scale, methodology, accessibility, and limitations); populating the library; and Ensuring that the library is user-friendly.
Objectives:
Develop criteria for resource library entries, including the structure for each entry and inclusion criteria.
Complete a comprehensive literature review and key informant interviews to populate the library.
Develop descriptive language and contribute to the design of the online interface to support usability.
Deliverables or outcomes:
Library inclusion criteria
Completed library entries
Draft descriptive language and instructions for library users

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must be either:
Bachelors or Masters student enrolled in an accredited college or university s eeking a degree program in Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Data Science, Urban Planning, or other related disciplines.
OR
A recent bachelors or masters graduate with a completed degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Data Science, Urban Planning, or other related disciplines. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or u niversity and have graduated with a bachelors or masters degree in the listed degree within three calendar years (2024-2026) (include transcripts).
College Transcripts:
You must be using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or a foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school and that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. Failure to provide a transcript or foreign credential evaluation report may result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience compiling, organizing, and documenting datasets.
Experience conducting literature reviews and summarizing key findings.
Experience conducting interviews, outreach, or other information-gathering activities to support research activities or resource development.
Familiarity with and interest in environmental justice, cumulative impact research, and related public health and policy concepts.
Ability to assess data sources for methodology, scale, limitations, and appropriate use.
Ability to use spreadsheets, databases, and web-based platforms for data organization, documentation of dataset characteristics, and/or development of user-friendly repositories, resource libraries, or webpages.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to summarize technical information and draft clear, user-friendly language for public or non-technical audiences.
Conditions of employment:
Pursuant to CDPHE policy, a background check is required for all positions at CDPHE.
Signed Non-Employee Confidentiality Agreement is required
If you will be using this internship for academic credit, a Signed Affiliation Agreement is required between CDPHE and your University.
