Job Summary:
This position is located within the Auraria Campus Police Department (ACPD) on the Auraria Campus. This is a dynamic area surrounded by three sporting arenas and a vibrant urban Downtown experience. The ACPD provides comprehensive law enforcement services, including emergency, non-emergency, technical, and communications support to the Auraria Campus Community as State of Colorado Peace Officers. This role requires rotating shift work, and candidates must be willing and able to work various shifts.

Essential Job Functions:
Criminal Law Enforcement:
Respond to all criminal and non-criminal calls for service.
Conduct field interviews of suspicious individuals.
Investigate reported crimes, gather evidence, and interview victims, witnesses, and suspects.
Arrest or detain individuals when appropriate and provide required advisements.
Enforce traffic laws and investigate motor vehicle accidents, providing aid as needed.
Patrol and monitor campus to deter crime and assist individuals in need of law enforcement services.
Safely respond to emergencies, both criminal and non-criminal.
Record Keeping, Documenting, and Evidence Handling:
Prepare and complete reports for criminal cases submitted to the District or City Attorney.
Prepare reports for campus administrative actions and distribute them to AHEC, UCD, MSU and CCD.
Preserve, log, and store all required evidence properly.
Testify in court as needed.
Special Events, Crowd Control, Motor Vehicle and Facility assists:
Maintain crowd and traffic control at public events (rallies, demonstrations, concerts, sporting events).
Provide specialized law enforcement agencies on dignitary protection and security.
Coordinate with other law enforcement escorts for campus monetary operations.
Assist and monitor the public as needed.
Lock and unlock AHEC facilities as required.
Training & Education:
Participate in in-service training, specialized law enforcement training, and continuing education.
Maintain proficiency in firearms, arrest control, defensive tactics, and all P.O.S.T. - required training.
Stay current on legal updates and recent court decisions affecting law enforcement.
Community Relations:
Build positive community relations through clear verbal and written communication.
Provide crime prevention and safety presentations or demonstrations as assigned.
Court Appearances & Testimony:
Appear in court when required (Municipal, County, District, etc.)
Provide testimony related to criminal and non-criminal investigations and charges.
Other duties as assigned:
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Conduct basic vehicles maintenance as needed.
Provide community escorts as assigned.
Respond to and address animal-related complaints and issues.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications:
Must hold valid and current Colorado P.O.S.T certification or hold Colorado P.O.S.T. by June 1st, 2026.
One (1) year of experience in Law Enforcement.
This may include time spent in a law enforcement academy with customer-facing experience that demonstrates strong public interaction and conflict-resolution skills. Please make sure this is clearly listed on your application.
Valid unencumbered Colorado drivers license.
Must be at least 21 years of age.

Additional Special Requirements:
Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Physical and psychological evaluations are required in accordance with section 24-31-303 (5)(b), C.R.S.
In order to be eligible to apply applicants must possess a valid and unencumbered Colorado Driver License.
Conditions of Employment:
Due to the inherent ability of this position to impact the safety and security of the Auraria Campus, candidates must be able to communicate fluently in English with others (written and verbally).
This position requires pre-employment background and credit investigation (personal and employment history). Applicants must submit to a complete background investigation that will include a personal and employment background check for various security clearances including Colorado Crime Information (CCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance. This investigation will include a polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen.
Any offer of employment is contingent on the successful passing of a physical and psychological examination by a licensed doctor or health care facility. The health care facility will be selected or approved by the Auraria Higher Education Center in order to determine whether the prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job.
Applicants must not have any felony convictions, domestic violence history or alcohol offenses within the last (3) years.
Applicants must not have received a failing result on a psychological evaluation within the preceding 12 months.
Applicants must not have experience involuntary termination from any position within the last preceding 12 months.
