Summary The VA Long Beach Healthcare System is hiring one (1) Electronics Mechanic Leader for the Engineering Service. The incumbent is a critical member of the Electronics Unit. Welcome to VA Long Beach Tibor Rubin - History Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: The incumbent is a working leader who leads the following employees in performing work: Electronics Mechanic/Fire Alarm Technician, Electronics Mechanics, Electricians. In addition to the permanent positions listed above, incumbent may lead any or all of the following: Compensated Work Therapy Program participants, Work Study Students, Incentive Therapy Program participants, Vocational Rehabilitation Program participants, High School Student volunteers, and temporary employees. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Pass on instructions received from a supervisor to other workers and projects started. Work along with other employees and set the pace. Demonstrate proper work methods. Inform the supervisor on the status and progress of work. Assure that needed plans, blueprints, materials and/or tools are available. Obtain needed information or decisions from supervisors as needed. Maintain a current knowledge and answer employee questions on procedures, policies, and/or written instructions i.e., work orders. Evenly distribute work to assigned employees. Assure that safety rules are followed. Update supervisor on overall work operations and/or work-related problems. Assist install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot and/or repair complex electronics equipment. Lift, carry and set up tools, equipment and/or parts that weight up to 40 pounds. Perform all preventative maintenance i.e., operational checks, repair, layout installation, troubleshooting, tracing on all new and existing electrical systems, electrical generators and/or fire suppression systems. Install, maintain and repair electrical equipment in accordance with CFR 19910.331-5 and/or the National Electric Code (NEC). Install and troubleshoot i.e., meters, load centers, circuit breakers, equipment controls, lighting and power outlets, disconnects, solenoids, relays and/or lighting fixtures. Bend and install EMT, rigid, flex and/or PVC conduits for installation of electric systems. Apply the National Electric Code (NEC) to projects to select the correct materials and/or methods for an installation or repair. Determine the proper operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems equipment and controls. Plan and lay out the routing, placement, @type and size of wire. Locate distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Incumbent works not only at a work bench but will be required to make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and in hard-to-reach places. This requires him to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weight up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, lifts and carries items that weight up to 50 pounds.
