Accounting Specialist (Project-Based Role)

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support our finance team in a project-based capacity. This role is responsible for a mix of administrative duties, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and compliance tasks. The ideal candidate has hands-on AP/AR experience, strong organizational skills, and is comfortable handling high-volume transactions in a fast-paced environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Support

Open, organize, and process incoming mail on a daily basis

Prepare and process payments by company (training provided, including check depositing procedures)

Scan and route invoices to the accounting inbox for processing

Accounts Payable (AP)

Process daily operating expense invoices manually

Prepare and process weekly check runs

Organize printed checks by company

Stuff envelopes and process outgoing mail using postage machine

Code daily credit card transactions to the general ledger

Code monthly Fuel Express invoices (retrieved via online portal)

Accounts Receivable (AR)

Deposit checks daily

Post check payments in BMI for Storey Kenworthy customers

Post electronic payments accurately and timely

Assist with sending invoices and monthly statements as needed

Compliance

Prepare and submit monthly sales tax remittances

Log into state revenue websites to process electronic tax payments

Required Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma required

2-4 years of experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or Invoicing

Strong data entry and reconciliation skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite

Experience with invoice processing and general accounting functions

High attention to detail and ability to meet daily deadlines

Preferred Skills

Familiarity with general ledger (GL) coding

Experience working with accounting or billing systems (e.g., BMI)

Comfortable handling physical mail, checks, and paper invoices

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Des Moines, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.04 - $26.44/hr.
