Senior Attorney - Information Technology & Cybersecurity, General Counsel Section
The office of Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Senior
Attorney in the General Counsel Section of the Civil Division. This position will advise the Columbus Department
ofTechnology and other city departments regarding compliance with federal and state laws related to
information technology, privacy, regulatory compliance, and cybersecurity.
The anticipated starting salary for this position will be between $100,000 and $130,000 depending upon
experience.
Requirements:
Must currently be admitted to the Ohio bar and in good standing.
Must have a minimum of 3 or more years of experience as a licensed attorney advising clients on matters
related to regulatory compliance with federal and state laws.
Must have a minimum of 2 or more years of experience as a licensed attorney advising clients on matters
related to cybersecurity.
Must have strong legal research and writing experience as a licensed attorney.
Undergraduate or graduate degree or previous career experience in information technology field preferred.
Knowledge of:
Laws, policies, procedures, and governance relevant to cybersecurity for critical infrastructures, regulated
data, and privacy.
Basic understanding of modern computing environments consistent with interconnected personal devices,
servers, storage systems, and networks that collectively process, store, and transmit data across centralized
and cloud-based platforms, enabling scalable applications, analytics, and data-driven operations.
Basic understanding of cybersecurity controls as the administrative, technical, and physical safeguards used to
protect people, data, and information systems by preventing, detecting, and responding to unauthorized
access, disruption, theft, or misuse.
Familiarity with Ohio public records and open meetings laws particularly as they may pertain to information
technology, data, intellectual property, and cybersecurity; basic understanding of key federal and state
cybersecurity and data protection laws governing the collection, use, safeguarding, and breach notification of
sensitive information, including obligations related to privacy, security controls, data controls, and regulatory
reporting.
Working familiarity with information technology agreement @types including purchase, license, subscription,
use, hosting, cloud, data sharing, attachment, shared services, and confidentiality/non-disclosure.
Working familiarity with information technology policy.
Legal research tools and methods.
English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition.
Ability to think creatively and develop solutions to issues.
Ability to work effectively with persons from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
About the Civil Division:
Located at 77 N. Front, the Civil Division represents the city and its employees in contract disputes, claims for
personal injury or property damage, constitutional violations, wrongful death, tax disputes, and claims requesting
money damages.

Examples of Work
Drafts policies, procedures, assessments, and frameworks related to efficient and effective governance of cybersecurity operations.
Reviews and negotiates information technology agreements.
Reviews, improves, and approves as to form city information technology legislation and policy.
Assists the Department of Technology in coordinating the city's efforts to protect information technology infrastructure and data, develop and exercise a cyber-response plan, establish uniform reporting standards.
Independently conducts research, formulates correspondence, complex reports & memoranda on cybersecurity strategy, operations, and governance.
Participates in development of cybersecurity strategy and operations across city departments.
Confers with City officials concerning the legal aspects of pending matters, including requests for public records.
Works with consultants and outside counsel to provide legal services for city administration.
Other duties as assigned.
