The Head Coach leads the College of Saint Benedict's (CSB) Track and Field program by creating and executing a vision for a championship-caliber team while ensuring a high-quality student-athlete experience. This role oversees all aspects of training and competition within the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and NCAA Division III. In addition, the Head Coach promotes and upholds the positive reputation of the program, the athletic department, and the College.
All athletic department staff are required to follow the philosophies and guidelines of intercollegiate athletics in alignment with the educational mission of CSB, the MIAC, and the NCAA.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Responsibilities
Coaching and Player Development
Plan and lead practices and training sessions to prepare the team for conference success and postseason opportunities.
Mentor and evaluate student-athletes, providing feedback and leadership development.
Ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules; represent the program at league and national meetings.
Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain required certifications.
Recruiting
Oversee and coordinate recruiting efforts within institutional and NCAA guidelines to attract talented, best-fit student-athletes.
Collaborate with the Directors of Athletics and Admissions to meet enrollment goals.
Build relationships with high school and club coaches; communicate with prospective student-athletes and coordinate campus visits.
Maintain recruit records and submit required reports by established deadlines.
Program Administration
Complete written reports as requested by the Athletic Director.
Coordinate meet logistics and collaborate with Saint John's University colleagues for joint events.
Manage program budget, scheduling, and travel logistics.
Care for, maintain, and manage inventory of equipment, uniforms, warm-ups, gear, etc.
Hire, supervise, and develop assistant coaches, volunteers, and student staff.
Communicate with faculty regarding academic-athletic conflicts and consult with the Athletic Director and Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) as necessary
Complete written reports as requested by the Athletic Director and maintain accurate records, updating archives annually.
Support team community service events and participate in departmental meetings and programs, including the CSB Athletic Awards Program; ensure completion of at least one community service event per semester.
Public Relations and Fund Raising
Promote the program through media, social media, and public appearances; share human interest stories with the Sports Information Director to increase coverage.
Monitor and maintain the accuracy of the CSB Track and Field website.
Participate in departmental fundraisers and Give-Day efforts.
Coordinate alumnae and family engagement events.
Serve as a clinician or guest speaker at community events when possible.
Student Development and Well-Being
Support student-athletes' academic, personal, and leadership growth.
Promote participation in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and department-wide educational programs.
Integrate Benedictine Values and an understanding of gender in sport into team culture, shaping positive, inclusive, and effective approaches to coaching women.
Other Duties
Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Athletic Director, Chief Operating Officer, or other college administrators.
Contribute to secondary assignments (approximately 30%), with specific responsibilities determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Examples may include oversight of club sports, game management, equipment coordination, academic support, and similar duties.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education or related field; master's degree preferred
Three or more years of coaching experience at college, high school, or club level
Demonstrated success in recruitment and athlete development
Strong knowledge of track and field rules, strategies, and techniques
Effective leadership, coaching, communication, and organizational skills; ability to positively represent the program to internal and external stakeholders
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of student-athletes, faculty, staff, and community members
Commitment to student-athlete development, academic success, and program integrity
Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required
Understanding of, or ability to learn, MIAC and NCAA Division III mission and rules
Hold CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications per NCAA rules, or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire
Valid driver's license and ability to meet the college's vehicle use requirements, including completion of a defensive driving course within one month of hire
Physical requirements:
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including leading student-athletes through training sessions and demonstrating techniques and skills.
Ability to move throughout campus facilities and indoor/outdoor competition venues.
Ability to lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Travel requirements:
Regular travel for games, recruiting, and other program-related activities

HEALTH INSURANCE
Employees are eligible for coverage in the health insurance plan on the first of the month following date of hire. If you elect medical coverage for yourself, you may also choose to cover your eligible dependents. The employee and CSB/SJU share in the cost of this benefit.
DENTAL INSURANCE
Employees are eligible for coverage in the dental insurance plan on the first of the month following date of hire. If you elect dental coverage for yourself, you may also choose to cover your eligible dependents. The employee and CSB/SJU share in the cost of this benefit.
LIFE INSURANCE
CSB/SJU provides a Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) policy to employees. This insurance is effective on the first of the month following date of hire. The amount of term insurance provided is based on your annual salary.
You may also purchase additional life insurance in increments of one, two, three, or four times your annual salary. There is also a dependent life insurance package available.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY
After one year of benefit eligible employment, CSB/SJU provides disability coverage in the event of an illness or injury that prevents you from working.
VACATION
Paid vacation is accrued based upon FTE and the number of years employed. Vacation is cumulative from year to year to a maximum of 240 hours.

These plans allow employees to set aside part of their salary on a pre-tax basis to pay for IRS approved expenses.
VISION PLAN
This voluntary plan offers affordable vision coverage for routine eye exams, eyeglass lenses and frames, and contact lenses. Discounts on hearing exams and hearing aids are also included.
TUITION REMISSION
Tuition remission is an educational benefit provided by CSB/SJU. A full-time employee and spouse (if applicable) are eligible for tuition free educational benefits the first full semester after six months of employment. Full time employees may enroll for one undergraduate course per term, which includes summer: up to a maximum of 2 courses per year.
There is also a tuition remission program for dependent children of full-time employees. This program provides a financial resource to a son or daughter for meeting the tuition costs of undergraduate education. Eligibility begins the fall or spring semester following 2 years (24 months) of continuous full-time employment. There are also two consortia programs in which CSB/SJU participate where employees' children may apply for scholarships to attend other colleges/universities.
Tuition assistance is also available at Saint John's Preparatory School for the dependents of full-time employees.
PARENTAL LEAVE
A paid leave (up to 15 days) will be granted to eligible employees upon the birth or adoption of a child, pro-rated based on FTE. New employees are eligible for this benefit after twelve months of employment.
SICK LEAVE
Full-time employees earn up to 9 days of sick leave per year, pro-rated based on FTE.
Sick leave is cumulative from year to year up to a maximum of 720 hours (90 days). Employees may also use accumulated personal sick leave to care for ill family members.
EMPLOYEEASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free counseling resource available to
all employees and immediate family members.
RETIREMENT
Defined Contribution Plan
CSB/SJU provides a retirement program for all qualified full-time employees. The program is administered by Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA).
Enrollment in the retirement plan will be effective the first day of the month following the date of hire unless the employee elects to opt-out.
