SCHEDULE: 10:00AM-6:30PM, Possible Rotating Weekends and Holidays. Full-time: 40 hours per week.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
This position performs a variety of different tasks, and must have the ability to multi-task, with many interruptions occurring throughout the day,
can be scheduled for weekends,etc.
Duties do include but not limited to: routine maintenance of plumbing, HVAC, minor electrical, carpentry, painting, etc. and/or preventive maintenance
plus grounds keeping such as snow removal making this position storm essential, etc. Some custodial cleaning. This person can be in the presence of inmates on a daily basis and must maintain strict professionalism in the presence of inmates and follow Jail Core standards, maintaining a security mindset is vital in this position (I.e. tool control).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (l Indicates essential function)
Performs routine maintenance such as but not limited to: completing a variety of work orders both written and oral, replacing light bulbs/ballasts, plumbing (i.e. unplugging toilets, showers, etc.), HVAC work (i.e. changing heat pump filters, bleeding off air, cleaning coils, etc.), painting, woodwork such as sanding and staining, caulking, replace damaged ceiling tiles, floor tiles, moving furniture, carpentry, etc. Check for proper heating and cooling of the building. Diagnoses equipment problems; fixes or seeks out assistance to fix/repair.
For safety of the building, public and staff make sure there is proper outside lighting of the buildings. Make sure all outside light fixtures are working, and change the timer times to coordinate with the sunrise, sunsets and clock changes.
Assist in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition by removing snow and ice from sidewalks, steps and parking lots. Performs outside work such as picking up paper, garbage, cigarette butts and debris.
Performs routine custodial work and cleaning activities such as damp wiping, spot cleaning or dusting, sanitizing hand contact areas, sweeping exterior walkways; interior entryways; lobbies, stairwells; clean interior and exterior windows including glass, doors and hardware.
Collects and disposes of waste in appropriate receptacles (recycle bulbs, paper, etc.)
Assist in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition by removing snow and ice from sidewalks, steps and parking lots. Performs outside work such as picking up paper, garbage, cigarette butts and debris.
Requests materials, supplies, equipment for the purpose of completing assignments in a timely manner.
Interacts with contractors, different trade's personnel, and monitors their services so that required performance is completed.
Collects and disposes of waste in appropriate receptacles (recycle bulbs, paper, etc.)
Use, clean and maintain in good condition cleaning carts, tools or equipment, assigned power equipment and hand tools after each use. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to surfaces, floors and fixtures. Keep shop, work areas and garage areas, clean, neat and organized, etc. after each project and at end of shift; clean up after yourself.
Mix water and cleaning detergents according to labels specifications. Makes sure all products have readable labels. No mixing of chemicals to create another product; must follow chemical SDS's.
Must comply with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, State and Federal, etc.
May be asked to assist in using the Bobcat, forklift, etc.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:This position is supervised by and reports to the Facilities Management Building and Grounds Foreman, in Foreman's absence reports to Facility Management Director, with input from Jail Commander and Sheriff.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES):(l indicates essential function)
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. 1 to 2 years' basic knowledge of, and experience with carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repair, painting and HVAC systems is preferred. Ability to understand and learn computer technology in area of Fire alarm systems, HVAC and lighting systems.
A valid Class D driver's license, be able to drive and an insurable driving record.
Basic arithmetic skills.
Ability to read and follow chemical labels and safety data sheets (SDS), and write clearly.
Ability to initiate and complete both written and oral work orders. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Must have the ability to monitor and account for all tools, cleaning cart, equipment, etc. around inmates.
A criminal background check will be completed and must complete required jail orientation training.
PHYSICAL and MENTAL DEMANDS: These support the essential functions of the position.
This position can work weekends and be on call on a rotating basis, can work irregular hours, or swing shift schedules to meet the needs of our facilities. Mainly be day time shift hours but can change depending on the tasks or projects scheduled for the day and needs of the facilities.
Must have vision capable of seeing medium and long distances.
Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
Ability to lift as much as 50 lbs., move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies, either manually, by using hand trucks, carts or dollies. Ability to perform physical labor such as but not limited to lifting heavy items, bending, standing, climbing ladders, walking, reaching, simple grasping, pushing/pulling, etc.
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of schedules and procedures; to meet schedules and time lines.
Understand and follow oral and written directions, be able to read labels and follow SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and speak English at a level which enables the individual to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.
Ability to train and provide work direction to others. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Have the ability to handle constructive feedback and follow through in a positive manner.
Ability to work independently and be productive with little direction or supervision
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must work indoors and outdoors year-around.
Works in precarious or high locations (ladders, lifts, etc.)
Must work in and around dust, fumes and odors. Must wear personal protective equipment, such as latex-free disposable gloves and other PPE or safety equipment as needed. Possible exposure to human waste and/or other body fluids.
