The Robotics and Digital solutions (RAD) group, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op for the Strategic Robotics R&D Team. This position is located in Santa Clara, CA.

The Strategic Robotics R&D team envisions a future for robotic intervention that is targeted, minimally invasive, and personalized. Building upon a deep understanding of patient and physician needs, we are developing a platform for the next evolution of soft-tissue robotic care.

You:
As a member of the Strategic Robotics R&D team you will join us on our journey to design and build one of the world's most advanced medical robotic platforms. You will work alongside all engineering functions to make contributions in Instruments and Accessories, mechanism design, design evaluations, and more. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and opportunities for growth within the team as we progress towards realizing our vision.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, proto@type and test instruments and accessories that will be mounted onto a robotic platform
Apply various manufacturing methods to quickly proto@type your designs, including 3D printing, machining, hand tools and bonding
Perform characterization studies, design and build test fixtures, or test setups
Document and share out designs, engineering analysis, manufacturing instructions, and results
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to integrate and evaluate your design solutions
Participate in labs and gather feedback clinical feedback
Education:
Currently enrolled in an accredited Engineering program pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree and returning to an academic program after the completion of the co-op.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
Experience with SolidWorks including creating models, assemblies, and detailed drawings
Experience with hand tools and power tools
Understanding design for manufacturing principles; rapid prototyping, plastic injection molding, metal injection molding and machining
Understanding of materials and material properties
Self-starter with a proven track record of engaging in self-directed learning and remaining productive with minimal direction
Ability to clearly communicate and present technical information to team members
Preferred:
Prior internship or Co-op experience recommended
Robotics or medical device experience preferred
Other:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
The expected pay range for this position is between $31.00 per hour and $59.00 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension).
