The U.S. Consumer Marketing team (USCM) leads marketing strategy for American Express in the U.S. Consumer market, with a focus on making membership essential to our customers. This includes acquiring new Card Members and deepening engagement with existing Card Members through compelling product value, differentiated experiences, and responsible growth.
Within USCM, the U.S. Customer Growth Marketing team is focused on deepening customer penetration across membership products - Card, Banking, Lending, Insurance, and Travel - by evolving the growth engine, expanding reach, and driving investment efficiency.
The Director, Banking Acceleration & Engagement will join a Banking Marketing team focused on deepening Membership by expanding the number of relationships with customers. This role will lead the development of critical marketing capabilities, enabling step-change improvements in how we acquire, engage, and retain customers. This highly visible, enterprise-facing role requires a strategic leader who can define priorities, influence across functions and senior stakeholders, and drive execution in a dynamic, evolving environment.
Core Responsibilities
Marketing Capability Strategy: Define, prioritize, and lead the development of key marketing capabilities to unlock growth across Banking products. Translate business needs into clear requirements and partner across Marketing, Product, Technology, and Analytics to deliver scalable solutions.
Dual Deposit Strategy & Go-to-Market: Define the strategy to accelerate adoption of combined Savings & Checking relationships. Develop and execute integrated go-to-market plans that drive cross-product acquisition
Customer Engagement Strategy: Evolve and optimize the engagement strategy for existing Banking customers, with a focus on early tenure experiences. Design data-driven curriculum that improves activation, retention, and long-term value.
Operational Excellence & Enablement: Lead foundational process improvements and enablement initiatives to enhance speed, efficiency, and effectiveness across Banking Marketing workstreams. Incorporate external insights and best practices to continuously improve performance.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
Proven experience in marketing strategy, marketing capability development, or related functions
Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction while driving detailed execution and delivering measurable business outcomes
Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence and align senior stakeholders
Strong relationship management skills with experience leading across large, cross-functional teams
Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced environments with ambiguity and evolving priorities
Strong planning and organizational skills, with experience managing complex, interdependent initiatives
Experience translating business needs into clear, actionable requirements for technical and product teams
Creative, solution-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities in a rapidly evolving landscape
Proven people leadership experience with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
Qualifications
Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
