Position Summary Information

General Summary

TheAccounting Clerkperforms a variety of routine to moderately difficult tasks associated with the documentation of Commission revenue and cash management controls in accordance with Commission policies.

Essential Functions

Classifies and generates receipts and expenditures in accordance with standard accounting principles and account code combinations for WSSC Water revenue (billing, fees, permits, deferred connection, FFBC payoffs, etc.)

Operates cashier's window which includes updating customer account information via C2M, balancing revenue collected, and expenditures disbursed to cash drawer

Reconciles daily collections and disbursements of revenue by preparing reports, posting billing data and recording budgetary requirements for Oracle upload to general ledger

Researches payments for accurate disbursement of funds and validates account information in preparation of processing and nightly data upload

Reviews and processes petty cash vouchers submitted by internal personnel

Reviews and processes mileage reimbursement requests based on Commission policy

Posts adjustments for returned electronic payments and records data for the Accounting Division reconciliation

Operates remittance processors and performs account and financial updates required for posting payments and bank deposits

Prepares daily cash deposit

Utilizes Image Data Capture application for account postings by analyzing images, ensuring accuracy determining course of action required

Implements necessary corrections to account number, amount on stub, MICR (Magnetic ink character recognition) line, check amount, balancing multiple stubs to check amount, multiple checks to stub amount, distributing water fund/roundup amount in accordance to stub specification

Other Functions

Provides Commission revenue associated documents for online viewing by other divisions

Performs routine disposal of paper financial documents including scanning and shredding

Analyzes information provided by customer and takes necessary action

Opens and distributes all mail delivered and received in the Revenue Section

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Ability to utilize multiple onsite databases and software applications (C2M, Cashier's Receipt, and WSP )

Proficiency with accounts receivables and remittance processing software applications

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

Good organizational skills and detail oriented

Ability to work as a team member

Good knowledge of accounting/clerical practices

Ability to maintain financial records and to prepare routine reports and statements

Ability to perform arithmetical computations quickly and accurately

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to operate calculators, personal computers and other office equipment

Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent

3+ years of experience in varied office and clerical tasks of an accounting and/or financial nature, including experience in cash handling

Additional Requirements

Required to work rotational shifts

Preferences

Successful completion of bookkeeping courses

Clerical experience in accounting

Salary$28.22 - $47.98
