Description We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to join our team in Columbia, South Carolina, on a contract with the potential for a permanent position. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a government-focused organization by supporting key financial operations, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with internal controls. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in facilitating financial processes and collaborating with various departments to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and reconcile accounts, cash receipts, benefit invoices, and adjustments to ensure accuracy.

Post journal entries and maintain accounting ledgers, including fixed asset and inventory records.

Generate financial reports and conduct monthly variance analyses to support management decision-making.

Assist with month-end closings, financial statement reviews, and annual audits.

Handle funding requests, credit card reconciliations, and budget preparation for departmental or project expenses.

Provide financial guidance to project managers and respond to accounting-related inquiries.

Act as a backup for the Staff Accountant and Finance & Accounting Manager to support team operations.

Ensure compliance with organizational policies and maintain confidentiality of financial data.

Perform additional duties as assigned to meet evolving department needs. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.

2-3 years of experience in general accounting, including accounts payable and receivable.

Proficiency in MOMENTIX and general ledger systems.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.

Strong understanding of debits, credits, and journal entries.

Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively.

Demonstrated integrity and ethical judgment in handling sensitive financial information.

Familiarity with Mac-based systems is a plus.
