Accountant I (Consultant engagement for 3+ months, can be extended longer)

Job Description

Join our dynamic team to support the financial management and audit processes. You will play a crucial role in managing day-to-day financial responsibilities, including reconciling bank statements and assisting with audit work. This interim position is expected to last at least through June 30th, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

Create journal entries and process account codes.

Pull data for audit purposes.

Perform monthly reconciliations of bank and other accounts.

Gather and process accounts payable documentation.

Enter payroll journal entries.

Assist the travel department in ensuring funding and documentation are complete before CFO approval.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in accounting and reconciliation processes.

Experience with general ledger accounting.

2-3+ years of accounting experience, including bank reconciliations.

Basic proficiency in Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with local government accounting.

Familiarity with Tyler Munis ERP systems.

Accounts payable and/or travel experience.

An associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field.

Work Environment

Work Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM in a fully equipped office environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Portsmouth, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
