Position summary: An intern supports the assigned design department by assisting with a variety of tasks, including special project assignments and active participation in project design and documentation, to gain practical experience and support their educational development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Assist senior or lead Engineer or Project Manager with basic design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support.

Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, graphics, design development, and construction phases.

Support the creation of presentation and marketing materials.

Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings.

Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed.

Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices.

Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience. -on experience

Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members.

Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders.

Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and other multidisciplinary team members.

Required Skills

Familiarity in using standard Microsoft Office for document creation and email communication.

Required Experience

Full time student, currently pursuing an ABET undergraduate degree in civil engineering with an interest in transportation projects.

Qualifications Preferred

Coursework in related field.

Previous internship or relevant work experience.

Familiarity with design and production software, with the ability to use these tools to develop project documents and collaborate with project team members.

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
