THE OPPORTUNITY
The AVP, Metadata and Traceability role is responsible for defining, implementing, and governing the enterprise-wide metadata management and data lineage architecture. This role ensures end-to-end visibility of data flows across systems, enhances regulatory compliance, strengthens data governance practices, and improves trust in enterprise data assets. The role is responsible for designing, implementing, and operationalizing the enterprise metadata and data lineage capability within the Data Platform organization.
The ideal candidate will establish metadata as a foundational architectural capability supporting enterprise data governance, regulatory compliance (SOX, ILDR, audit), and data quality transparency. Performs all duties in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures, all U.S. state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the Company operates.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Metadata Architecture
Define and execute the enterprise metadata management standards.
Establish standards, policies, and frameworks for business, technical, and operational metadata across Snowflake, dbt, Azure, PowerBI and ingestion platforms
Partner with team members to align metadata with business glossary, data quality, data ownership, and stewardship frameworks.
Collaborate with Data Governance to develop and maintain enterprise data glossary and business term definitions.
Develop metadata coverage, KPIs and platform adoption metrics.
Data Lineage Management
Design and implement automated end-to-end data lineage across systems (source-to-target).
Ensure traceability of data flows across ETL/ELT pipelines, APIs, databases, and reporting layers.
Enable impact analysis, root cause analysis, and regulatory reporting through lineage insights. Enable impact analysis for platform changes.
Partner with Data Engineering to embed lineage capture into CI/CD workflows.
Metadata Platform Ownership
Lead implementation and optimization of metadata and lineage tools (e.g., MS Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica EDC, Atlan, or equivalent.).
Oversee integrations between metadata tools and data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure, etc.).
Oversee tool configuration, upgrades, and enhancements.
Ensure scalability and performance of metadata infrastructure.
Define roadmap for automation and AI-assisted lineage discovery.
Regulatory & Compliance Enablement
Support compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, internal audit).
Provide defensible lineage documentation for regulatory submissions and audits.
Enable data traceability and transparency across Key data elements (KDEs).
Governance & Cross Functional Alignment
Partner with Data Governance on glossary integration and KDE alignment.
Collaborate with Data Architecture on modeling standards.
Align with Data Quality teams to integrate metadata and DQ visibility.
Provide executive-level reporting on metadata maturity and lineage coverage.
Follow all established policies and procedures.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field.
4-6 years of experience in Data Management, Data Governance, or Data Architecture.
4+ years of hands-on experience with metadata/lineage tools.
Strong understanding of:
Data architecture (OLTP, OLAP, data lakes, warehouses)
ETL/ELT processes
Data modeling practices
Cloud data platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP/Snowflake)
Data lifecycle governance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in regulated industries (Banking, Financial Services, Healthcare, etc.).
Knowledge of data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK).
Experience with:
Data Quality frameworks
Data catalog implementation.

SALARY RANGE
The base salary ultimately offered is determined through a review of education, industry experience, training, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant in alignment with market data and other factors.
