Work involves assessing students, providing individualized, competency-based instruction, and maintaining a positive teaching/learning environment in which youth are guided and encouraged to develop and fulfill their academic potential.May require occasional travel for professional development. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per work week and/or be on call.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPlans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate an active learning environment.Observes and evaluates youth performance and development; provides appropriate feedback on work; and encourages and monitors the progress of individual students.Identifies the learning needs of students and interprets assessment information. Identifies and selects different instructional resources and methods to meet the varying needs of youths.Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.Maintains accurate and complete records of youth progress and development; and updates all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and agency policies.Provides educational services to potentially aggressive/combative youth in a correctional setting with a wide variety of temperaments (volatile, aggressive, suicidal) and specialized needs (chemically dependent, sexual offenders).Treats youth with respect in all situations and the ability to react quickly and effectively to verbally and physically defuse hazardous, combative, volatile situations on an as needed basis.Keeps up to date with developments in the subject area, teaching resources, and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans.Ensure that students obtain a general knowledgeof the labor market information pertaining to the industry and occupations pertaining to the subject area and demonstrate for students how to locate and interpret the information.Ensures students can accurately identify and demonstrate hard and soft skills necessary for obtaining and maintaining employment.Provide opportunities for all students to earn relevant post-secondary credentials, including industry-based certification where applicable.Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all program equipment, tools, and supplies; manage a well-organized safe program and classrooms.Develop and maintain positive relationships with post-secondary/industry partners to provide appropriate school-based learning experiences and to ensure the program of study is informed by employer and industry needs.Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelorand#8217;s degree and a valid Secondary Texas Teacher Certification in the specified subject assignment area.
