Bowhead seeks Lakehurst Switch Technician - Telecommunications Mechanic II
Bowhead seeks an experienced Telecommunications Switch Technician to support Base Telecommunications System operations and maintenance at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. The Switch Technician will provide technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Avaya switching systems and associated telecommunications infrastructure supporting mission-critical voice services at the Lakehurst installation.
This position will support switching system operations while also assisting with outside plant coordination through oversight of dig permits and cable locating activities.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
Operate and maintain the Avaya CM10 switching system and associated telecommunications equipment supporting the Base Telecommunications System.
Perform system administration, configuration, and operational maintenance of voice switching infrastructure.
Support troubleshooting and restoration of telecommunications outages, trouble tickets, and service disruptions.
Perform system backups, database administration, and system configuration management for switching systems.
Support adds, moves, changes, and deletions of telephone circuits and services.
Assist with software updates, configuration changes, and system upgrades associated with voice infrastructure.
Oversee dig permit coordination and cable locating activities for the Lakehurst installation.
Perform cable locating, staking, and marking activities in support of excavation and construction projects.
Conduct approximately 100-150 cable mark-outs annually in support of the base dig permit process.
Coordinate with Civil Engineering and telecommunications personnel regarding excavation activities that impact telecommunications infrastructure.
Document maintenance actions, system changes, and troubleshooting activities in accordance with contract documentation requirements.

Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical training in telecommunications, networking, or information technology is preferred.
Years of experience
Minimum of five years of experience supporting telecommunications switching systems or voice network infrastructure required.
Experience operating and maintaining enterprise voice systems or telecommunications switching platforms is preferred.
Required skills or certifications
Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining Avaya CM10 switching systems.
Working knowledge of telecommunications switching systems and associated voice infrastructure.
Ability to perform system configuration, troubleshooting, and operational maintenance of enterprise voice systems.
Knowledge of telecommunications operations and maintenance procedures supporting voice and unified communications systems.
Ability to diagnose and resolve telecommunications service outages and switching system faults.
Experience supporting cable locating, staking, and marking activities in support of excavation projects.
Ability to operate cable locating equipment and accurately identify underground telecommunications infrastructure.
Ability to read and interpret telecommunications technical documentation, system diagrams, and infrastructure drawings.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in mission-critical telecommunications environments.
Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
