Mission:
Our mission is to offer people with disabilities the necessary supports in order to promote the personal values of individual growth, participation, contribution and capability.
Organizational Focus:
We provide services to individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities living in Colorado. Admissions are for individuals with complex behavior and medical needs who may pose a risk to themselves or the community. We provide emergency treatment stabilization for people and provide support to the community service delivery system.
Overall function of the work unit:
This work unit exists to provide monitoring, evaluation, and intervention to ensure the physical safety and security of the persons served at Wheat Ridge Regional Center (WRRC), its staff members, its property, and others. This work unit also provides staff with knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions and assigned duties of their positions in safety and security for individuals and employees of the agency. The work unit serves ICF/IID (Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities) homes in the community and three additional locations (the Administrative Building, Sunada Learning Center, and King Soopers Reclamation Center).
Description of Job
Summary of Position:
This position exists to provide monitoring, evaluation, and intervention to ensure the physical safety and security of the persons served at Wheat Ridge Regional Center, its staff members, its property, and others. The position also provides coaching to the staff to teach them to provide a safe and secure environment as well.
Duties of the position:
Safety Checks / House Monitoring
Monitors safety and security for ICF/IID facilities in the community, including five Kipling village homes and 13 other locations throughout the Denver metro area.
Completes daily documentation of safety checks for all areas assigned, including entering the database and emailing to the safety team.
Notifies appropriate team members or agency personnel when observations are made that conflict with or are counterproductive to the treatment plan.
Drive to numerous sites daily, as described in the monitoring of the properties, staff, and individuals.
Observe documentation at the work sites to ensure timeliness and accuracy of recording bed checks, treatment plans, medications, key check-out, and other documentation as necessary.
Crisis Intervention
Respond promptly to individuals in crisis.
Take action to create a safe environment and ensure protection from harm.
Assist in verbal redirection.
Performs approved physical intervention maneuvers for individuals who need to be physically restrained due to urgent safety concerns, utilizing the least restrictive measures possible; assists in searching for individuals who have gone AWOL and returning them safely to the facility; transporting individuals to/from hospital, etc.; searching the facility for dangerous objects, contraband, weapons, etc. and removing/storing safely when needed.
Occasionally, interface with law enforcement regarding individuals when needed.
Provide clinical support for individuals' behavioral programs.
Recommend to the teams regarding individual program development.
Coaching / Modeling/Providing Guidance
Coach, model, and provide guidance to other staff in creating a safe environment and crisis intervention.
Ensure proficiency in Therapy, Cornerstone, UKG, Behavior Plans, Safety Care, and Transport.
Assist and coach staff while fostering agency efficiency and cohesion.
Ratio Coverage
Provide intermittent coverage and assistance within individual homes, as needed due to shortages and agency needs.
Assist with the implementation of the individual Program Plan, for example, supporting individuals with activities of daily living, personal care, and domestic care skills.
Implement therapy and behavior programs.
Provide transportation to and from day programs or appointments. Responds to medical or behavioral emergencies
Provide formal and informal active treatment to the individuals.
Other Duties Assigned
Performs minor maintenance tasks; assists with agency projects; assists in agency or individual moves; develops and/or maintains databases for the department (i.e. keys); works collaboratively with other agency departments to assist as needed; other duties as required for business needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Special Qualifications:
SBON (State Board of Nursing) Licensed Psychiatric Technician, Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP) or equivalent required for this position; valid, current and unrestricted.

CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons): CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults - Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application (unless otherwise identified in the posting), and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
Motor Vehicle Check, if the employee will drive a state-owned vehicle, either in an ongoing capacity while performing their normal day-to-day job duties, OR on occasion for training/meetings/client visits/etc.
Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver's License or a non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border
Out-of-State Driver's License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of employment start date.
Must be at least 18 years of age
Pre-employment Physical/Test: Must demonstrate the ability to lift 50 lbs, bend, squat, etc., and perform physical interventions proficiently (pre-employment and continuously throughout employment).
Influenza and other vaccines as required by the State of CO
A Tuberculosis Test (TB) will be required upon hire
WRRC is a 24/7 facility; therefore person in this position must be available to work any shift, any day, and/or any area, to meet agency needs.
Must travel to remote work sites and must utilize a state vehicle, if available. If not, must utilize personal vehicle and submit for mileage reimbursement. Position is required to use a state vehicle to transport residents.
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
