Description:

The Medication Historian assists with the accurate and complete collection of medication history data in a variety of hospital settings. This role prioritizes the process of obtaining an accurate and complete medication list upon hospital admission to ensure patient safety.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :

A. Education [formal]: 1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Must be a registered pharmacy technician or be eligible for technician/trainee registration in the State of Iowa. This must be completed within 30 days of employment.

National Pharmacy Technician Certification required within 1 year of employment.

B. Experience:

Two or more years of experience as a pharmacy technician (retail preferred) or allied health professional, with knowledge of medications including brand/generic names, available dosages, frequencies and indications.

C. Special Skills and Competencies:

Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual able to work with minimum supervision.

Required/preferred certification in Pharmacy Technician Certification

Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs.

Ability to work flexible hours

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with people of diverse backgrounds and at all levels within the medical center and community.

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Ability to create and foster a cooperative teamwork environment.

Be proficient in mathematical skills; and successfully complete competency exam with a minimum passing score of 70%
