Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedAcademic Services Officer I/II, Undergraduate Advisor, College of Educationat its Detroit campus location.

Essential Functions:

Advise prospective and current undergraduate students seeking bachelor's degrees in the following areas: Exercise and Sport Science, Health and Physical Education Teaching, and Sport Management. Opportunities may arise to advise students in Community Health and in our other undergraduate Teacher Education programs.

Maintain continuous advising relationships with students; effectively engage students in broad discussions from initial college preparedness through career planning; monitor and communicate using university systems, social media, small groups, and face-to-face sessions, as appropriate.

Provide enrollment and retention support for newly admitted and continuing students, including assistance with course planning, registration, program requirements, and academic policies.

Interact effectively with university data to improve student academic outcomes, student engagement, and improve unit processes.

Effectively and accurately communicate information about admissions, academic, and non-academic requirements, in addition to other university policies and procedures.

Continuously develop knowledge of best practices, policies, procedures, technological tools, etc.

Demonstrate ability to act as liaison with other units; participate in meetings and work as a member of a team.

Additional Responsibilities:

Assist with new student onboarding, including orientation programming, advising workshops, and early-term transition support.

Assist with campus events such as FestiFall, New Student Orientation, Commencement, etc.

Assist in the implementation of divisional student success strategies, including but not limited to: community building activities, workshops, cohort initiatives, mentoring, leadership, conferences, etc.

Assist with divisional outreach efforts as needed to improve student outcomes.

Assist with backend student processes and data collection as assigned.

Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekend hours as requested.

Must have own transportation.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required for Academic Services Officer I; Master's degree required for Academic Services Officer II; Degrees in student affairs, higher education, or related fields.

Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting; ability to work with faculty, administration, staff, parents, and students; sensitivity to the needs of a diverse and non-traditional student population; interpersonal/human relations skills; ability to encourage and empower students to make their own decisions; ability to act as an advocate for both the student and the university; ability to identify students' needs for support services to make appropriate recommendations; and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Advising experience at a university or community college level, working with a diverse student body.

Ability to quickly assimilate extensive knowledge of a complex nature.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent organization, technological, and collaborative skills.

Strong focus on detail and task completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Banner, Civitas Learning, Degree Works, and the Canvas LMS system. Excellent skill in data literacy and analysis.
