Are you ready to create an impact in a transforming industry? We are seeking an Electrical Hardware Engineer to join our Anderson-Negele team in Spartanburg, SC. In this dual-focus role, you will balance two complementary responsibilities: advancing product improvements and enhancements for industrial hygienic sensors and measurement systems that expand capabilities and customer value, while sustaining existing product lines through ongoing maintenance, quality improvements, and cost optimization. You'll work autonomously on impactful projects while maintaining regulatory compliance for global markets, working closely with Product Management to execute improvement roadmaps. This position requires strong technical judgment, disciplined execution, and the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Product Improvement & Enhancement
Execute Product Improvements: Implement hardware enhancements based on Product Management priorities; translate improvement roadmaps into executable design changes that expand capabilities, performance, reliability, or usability
Design & Optimization: Create electrical design updates and modify hardware architecture for existing product platforms, balancing performance gains, manufacturability, and cost
Testing & Validation: Plan and execute comprehensive lab testing and validation of design changes using appropriate data loggers, lab equipment, and electrical test instruments; compare against baselines and verify improvement objectives
R&D Exploration: Perform targeted, exploratory investigations (e.g., evaluating new components, sensing approaches, or architectures) to de-risk and enable future product improvements
Sustaining Engineering & Maintenance
Execute Sustaining Projects: Lead sustainment, value analysis/value engineering (VAVE), and margin improvement initiatives from concept through implementation to ensure existing products remain competitive, compliant, and cost-effective
Maintain Regulatory Compliance: Keep product designs aligned with strict regulatory standards (CE, UL, CSA, CPA, RoHS); manage documentation, testing, and compliance tasks to preserve regulatory portfolio
Quality & Cost Management: Drive quality improvements and cost reductions across the portfolio through focused optimization projects and process enhancements
Continuous Improvement: Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizens, Process Standardization Projects, etc.) to streamline sustaining processes
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Management
Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with Product Management, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing teams to align on priorities, ensure design feasibility, and optimize for producibility and cost
Track Project Metrics: Monitor and report on project metrics, cost, schedule, and quality targets; ensure alignment with business priorities for both sustaining and improvement initiatives
Travel: This role will require occasional travel, estimated at approximately 5-10 % of the time
Team Structure: The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of approximately 5-10 engineers
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (Master's degree preferred)
Hardware Design Experience: Demonstrated ability to update electrical hardware architecture and implement design changes for both sustaining projects and product improvement initiatives in production environments
Must be proficient in electrical design tools such as Altium, KiCad, and Eagle.
Must have hands-on experience troubleshooting circuit boards.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with hand tools, industrial tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment
Strong understanding of sensing technologies and microcontroller-based systems
Experience with electrical simulation software
Basic analog design capabilities
Experience with revision control systems (GIT, SVN, or equivalent)
Equipment & Tools: Hands-on experience with data loggers, lab equipment, and electrical test instruments for verification and troubleshooting
Product Development: Experience working in a structured product development or product improvement environment with cross-functional teams
Work Style: Execution-focused mindset with ability to work autonomously within agreed priorities; strong decision-making skills with sound technical judgment; capable of balancing multiple concurrent initiatives
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience working with product development and execution of product improvement initiatives
Experience with fast-paced product development and iterative processes
