Job Description
We are seeking an entry-level land Surveyor with a strong desire to learn about field survey work. This role is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in gaining hands-on experience with survey equipment and techniques.
Responsibilities
Assist in performing field surveys using GPS units, total stations, levels, and related equipment.
Measure and record distances, angles, elevations, and reference points.
Set survey stakes, markers, and control points based on project instructions.
Maintain clear and accurate field notes, sketches, and photos.
Transport, set up, operate, and maintain survey instruments and tools.
Support data collection and basic data review for use in mapping software.
Communicate field conditions, obstacles, and progress to the survey lead.
Follow all safety protocols, maintain a safe work environment, and participate in safety briefings.
Essential Skills
Proficiency with construction and boundary survey software.
Experience with topographic surveys and ALTA surveys.
Familiarity with equipment such as Topcon, Total Station, and Leica.
Strong math skills, particularly in algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction, Surveying, or a related field preferred but not required.
Valid driver's license.
Comfortable working outdoors.
Work Environment
The role involves working outdoors and in an office setting to complete reports and paperwork. You will be part of a dynamic team in a midsize firm that focuses on DOT projects, where the demand is high. You will have the opportunity to learn from tenured crew chiefs and Professional Land Surveyors (PLS) who are nearing retirement and are eager to pass on their knowledge. The firm utilizes drone technology when necessary and provides training for consultants who show a genuine interest in developing their skills.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shawnee Mission, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
