Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Work Shift: Second shift, 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Each Registered Nurse who is permanently assigned to the second or third shift may be eligible to receive a "recruitment and retention" yearly bonus of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00). This bonus shall be pro-rated for part-time Registered Nurses. This bonus shall be paid biweekly. In order to be eligible for this bonus, the Employee must have completed one year of service in the registered nurse classification.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
You will be serving those who have served at the Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center (https://portal.ct.gov/DVA/Pages/Sgt-John-L-Levitow-Veterans-Healthcare-Center) , a Skilled Nursing Facility licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and certified by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Healthcare Center is also certified as a State Veterans Homes by the Federal Veterans Administration and regularly inspected by the VA.
At our health care facility, we provide both short and long-term care for patients requiring daily medical management.

The DVA has supported Connecticut Veterans and continues this tradition with Residential and Healthcare programming on our campus in Rocky Hill. There are two paths for residency at the DVA:
Residential Facility: offers temporary, supportive living with programming designed to return Connecticut Veterans to independent living in the community;
Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center (https://portal.ct.gov/DVA/Pages/Sgt-John-L-Levitow-Veterans-Healthcare-Center) : a state-of-the-art medical facility that offers long-term care for Veterans with chronic, disabling conditions who require 24-hour assistance.
When you walk through the doors of the Healthcare Center (HCC), one immediately feels a sense of community, comfort, and camaraderie. Our highly trained staff is dedicated to providing compassionate care to meet the unique needs of Veteran patients, built on the foundation of integrity, honor, and respect. Review the results and select the 'Next' button. Check the box next to 'Connecticut' and complete the transaction. Once the transaction is completed, you will receive a confirmation email from Nursys and the verification will be available to the DPH. Note that PA and MI verifications are not provided through Nursys. Please contact those state boards for information on obtaining verification.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising nursing staff engaged in professional nursing activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Plans, organizes and directs health services for an assigned program, unit(s), facility or geographical area;
Ensures that goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to individuals;
Provides clinical guidance to nursing staff;
Selects, develops, motivates and evaluates staff;
Conducts performance evaluations;
Monitors the quality of documentation, records and other information concerning services and care;
Ensures that resources are available to provide quality services;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
A Bachelor's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in a Skilled Nursing Facility in a Long-Term Care setting.
Experience utilizing Department of Public Health and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations in a Long-Term Care facility.
Experience working with the Veteran population.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut OR hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license.
Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
