The role - what you'll do Barr is seeking a hydrogeologist to join our teamto help with challenging projects related to quantitative hydrogeology. In this hybrid role, you will apply hydrogeology and groundwater modeling skills on projects related to water supply evaluations, remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine planning and development, and groundwater-surface water interactions. Responsibilities will include working individually or as a part of a project team to assist with conceptual site model development; numerical modeling of groundwater flow and fate and transport; and aquifer test performance analysis. Fieldwork opportunities for this position are also available and may include on-site investigations of contaminated soil, groundwater, sediment, and soil gas, including oversight of well installation and sample collection, and preparation of drilling logs, cross sections, geologic maps, and technical reports. Fieldwork opportunities for this position may be year-round and require some out-of-town travel. Your impact - key responsibilities Technical knowledge: apply foundational hydrogeology and geoscience principles to support subsurface investigations, groundwater and soil sampling, and related data collection. Assist with data analysis and contribute to evaluations of groundwater flow, contaminant transport, and site conditions. Support hydrogeologic modeling tasks such as data preparation, calibration, and interpretation under supervision. Project support: help coordinate field activities and logistics, including contractor oversight and equipment preparation. Assist in tracking project progress and documenting key milestones. Problem solving: contribute to the interpretation of geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and the identification of potential solutions to water- and subsurface-related challenges. Learn how to apply regulatory knowledge, hydrogeologic methods, and scientific reasoning to real-world scenarios. Communication: produce clear figures and data summaries, draft report sections, and communications. Provide concise status updates to project managers and stakeholders. Interpersonal savvy: effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships. About the opportunity Compensation: anticipated range of $70,000-$85,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. About you - required core competencies Education: master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or a related engineering degree. Experience: thesis, coursework, or previous work experience directly related to groundwater flow and/or fate and transport modeling; two or more years of relevant work experience. GPA: minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0. Software: strong computer skills, including familiarity with MODFLOW and Microsoft Office Suite. Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future. Helpful additional experience (not required) Software: proficiency in GIS and programming experience using Python or FORTRAN. Training: 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification. Familiarity with Groundwater Vistas. Experience in aquifer test implementation and analysis. Experience or coursework in the use of groundwater fate and transport codes. Experience or coursework in parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis using PEST.
