Summary The Assistant Auditor General serves as a key leader within the Air Force Audit Agency (AFAA), responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of internal audit operations. The Auditor General of the Department of the Air Force directs the internal audit mission of the DAF through the Air Force Audit Agency. MAJOR DUTIES: The Assistant Auditor General serves as a key leader within the Air Force Audit Agency (AFAA), responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of internal audit operations. The incumbent will lead a diverse team of professionals in executing a comprehensive audit program, ensuring compliance with professional standards, and providing expert advice to senior leadership to enhance agency effectiveness and accountability. The incumbent will: Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for a portfolio of audit activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities. Direct the planning, execution, and reporting of a wide range of audits in accordance with Government Auditing Standards and agency policies. Develop and implement audit policies, procedures, and methodologies to ensure the quality and effectiveness of audit services. Lead and manage a diverse workforce of audit professionals, including recruitment, development, and performance management, to foster a high-performing and inclusive environment. Serve as a principal advisor to the Auditor General and other senior leaders on audit-related matters, providing expert analysis and recommendations on complex issues. Represent the agency and build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including senior officials within the Department of the Air Force, Department of War, and other government agencies. Manage and allocate human and financial resources to optimize the efficiency and impact of audit operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Eligibility will be based upon a clear showing the applicant has education, training, and experience of the scope and quality sufficient to effectively carry-out the duties of the position. Candidates must exemplify the corporate perspective, leadership vision, broad experience and character needed in the SES corps not only to satisfy the immediate vacancy, but future vacancies which will occur in a variety of organizations, functions and locations. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQs): Your resume should demonstrate accomplishments that satisfy the technical qualifications. TQ1. Demonstrated expertise leading and executing internal audits, financial operations, and financial improvement/audit remediation activities within a complex organization. Possession of a deep understanding of professional auditing standards and principles, complemented by in-depth knowledge of related fields like management analysis, statistics, and financial management/reporting. TQ2. Proven ability to lead and manage human, financial, and technological resources to achieve strategic organizational goals. This includes extensive experience managing teams across diverse stakeholder groups, such as senior leadership and field components, while leveraging technology and data to drive results. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: This is a Financial Management Level 3 Certified position IAW the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2012, Public Law 112-81, Subtitle F-Financial Management, Section 1599d. Key Position: The duties of this position meet all requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. Tiering: The Department of the Air Force structures its SES positions into tiers to determine the pay range for each position. The categories are based on the position scope, breadth, functions, and placement within the structure of organizational levels across the Department. Salary: $151,662.00 - $219,000.00 per annum. (Air Force Tier 1 - Tier 2) SES members are eligible for bonuses and/or ranks and stipends in addition to annual salary.
