As an Executive Chief Engineer in Electric Machines at GE Vernova's Advanced Research Center, you will define the future of rotating electrical machines that power the global energy transition. You will work with the engineering and product teams across all the GE Vernova businesses and across the research center to develop technology and product roadmaps that establish GE Vernova's leadership in electromechanical systems for power generation, conversion, and storage applications.
You will identify, shape, and lead the evolution of motor and generator technologies by applying electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical engineering principles to create machines, advanced materials, and manufacturing processes that will have strategic impact across GE Vernova's portfolio. As an executive chief engineer, you will foster strategic collaborations with government partners, national laboratories, universities, and technology partners to drive innovative solutions for GE Vernova and its customers.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
Define and lead the strategy for rotating electrical machine technology development across Vernova Advanced Research and multiple GE Vernova businesses.
Drive the future technology stack for the power industry, including power generation, energy storage, power conversion, and renewable applications, while improving performance of existing products.
Provide technical and industry thought leadership on disruptive technologies such as high-speed machines, superconducting generators, advanced cooling systems, additive manufacturing, and next-generation materials, with strong awareness of the competitive landscape.
Serve as a key technical architect by driving the development of engineered solutions that address critical business and technology needs.
Solve the company's most impactful scientific and engineering challenges related to power density, efficiency, reliability, and cost reduction in electrical machines.
Identify emerging technology trends with high disruption potential by collaborating with engineers and scientists across multiple technology organizations.
Lead early-stage, high-impact technology development efforts and mature innovations from concept through successful product introduction.
Coordinate disruptive technology initiatives with GE Vernova businesses to ensure alignment with long-term, multi-generational technology and product roadmaps.
Develop and drive multi-year technology and product roadmaps to maintain and enhance business competitiveness.
Shape external strategy for motors and generators by building and sustaining relationships with U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Energy (ARPA-E and Office of Electricity), Department of Defense, and other agencies.
Lead and support responses to government solicitations for advanced motor and generator R&D, including high-speed machines, superconducting systems, integrated motor drives, and manufacturing innovation.
Partner with business stakeholders to establish collaborations with universities, national laboratories, and industry partners.
Identify, mentor, and develop key technical talent to serve as Principal Investigators on large government-funded programs in electrical machines and electromechanical systems.
Communicate cross-organizational and cross-business technology strategies through executive-level briefings to Senior Vice Presidents, CEOs, and external C-suite stakeholders across industry, government, and academia
Required Qualifications :
Doctorate degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related scientific field with a minimum of 15 years of experience OR master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related scientific field with a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience
A minimum of 10 years of experience leading teams or large projects
Proven track record of designing, analyzing, and building motors and/or generators across multiple technology @types (e.g., synchronous generators, induction motors, permanent magnet machines, wound field machines)
Strong foundation in electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) using commercial tools such as Ansys Maxwell, JMAG, Motor-CAD, or equivalent
Solid understanding of thermal analysis and cooling system design for electrical machines including air, liquid, and advanced cooling technologies
Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles including rotor dynamics, structural analysis, bearings, and mechanical integration
Familiarity with power electronics and motor drive systems and their interaction with electrical machines
Expert leader of large government research programs and writing successful R&D proposals
Expert leader of large, multi-disciplinary research teams, and reporting out to Senior VP and CEO leadership levels
US Citizenship is required due to Federal Contract Provisions.

Proven ability to manage risk and uncertainty for self and team within a dynamic priority-setting environment
Strong technical acumen paired with an ability to understand a wide range of technology domains
Influence, facilitation, and negotiation skills; boundary-less/solution-focused approach
Demonstrated ability to take an innovative idea from research to a product
Strong record of peer-reviewed journal publications, conference presentations, and participation on industry leading panels
For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $204,000 and $306,000 USD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government. ?
