The Microsoft Purview Team is responsible for a broad suite of data governance, data security, compliance, privacy, and risk management solutions across Microsoft 365, Azure, and multi-cloud environments.
We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer - Purview for the Purview team, you will help ensure the software, tools, and code meets the highest standards for scale and security. This opportunity will allow you to learn about customer scaling requirements and the application of best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations, while ensuring the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility and of course security. You will look for opportunities to raise the security bar as you apply Microsoft's security policies and best practices. This hybrid position is located at our Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location.?

Responsibilities
Owns product/solution architecture by testing design hypotheses and creating detailed specifications.
Explores and evaluates design options, outlining strengths and weaknesses for complex scenarios.
Collaborates with architects to build and modify complex solutions, providing feedback proactively.
Identifies and manages dependencies, ensuring security, compliance, performance, and reliability across systems.
Coordinates with other teams to resolve conflicts and achieve common goals where dependencies overlap.
Produces high-quality, secure, and performant code, applying best practices and improving maintainability.
Escalates blockers and risks, communicating impacts on timelines and proposing mitigation strategies.
Conducts timely code reviews, ensuring standards, test coverage, diagnosability, and adherence to best practices.
Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), monitoring systems, responding to incidents, and driving global resolutions.
Leads efforts to reduce incident volume, analyzing patterns and implementing broad preventive measures.
Design and develop large scale distributed software services for Microsoft Purview Solutions.?Adhere to and drive modern software engineering practices through design?and code?reviews.????
Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios. Leads efforts and discussions for the architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g. design, cost).
Creates design documents and leads testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions.
Leads by example and mentors' others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products. Leads efforts to optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise in the coding and validation strategy.
Leads efforts for creation and conducting of experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes, monitors developments for prototyping and testing products, interprets results, and decides on next steps or ship decision from results.
Develop "best-in-class" engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components?are?well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively?monitored?and reusable.??Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.????
System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews,?leveraging?data/telemetry to make decisions.??
Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.???
Gain a working understanding of Microsoft?as a?business and collaborate with mentors and leaders?to?contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.?
Focus on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. 8+ years of experience as a software engineer designing, implementing, and shipping cloud services or software products.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
