Responsibilities You will perform emergency protocols and procedures by providing basic life support (BLS) established by the system medical director. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as, but not limited to: pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) Vehicles. You will perform pre-fire layout inspections of structures to locate potential fire hazards and identify fire protection systems. You will combat fires in difficult and dangerous environments (e.g., small passages, small compartments, confined or unventilated areas, fuel tanks or gun mounts). You will inspect, test, and maintain vehicles and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations. You will perform firefighting duties for a variety of facilities and perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protection systems. You will operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, while maintaining effective awareness of conditions for possible repositioning of vehicles and/or warning other firefighters of hazards. You will operate a wide array of firefighting equipment to suppress fires. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing fire prevention, fire protection, and/or fire suppression services to ensure public safety; 2) Operating a wide variety of firefighting vehicles, apparatus, and equipment to combat fire or hazardous material incidents; 3) Responding to hazardous materials incidents to mitigate damage; and 4) Providing emergency medical care to perform basic life support measures. In addition, this position at the GS-07 level, requires possession of the following certifications: 1) Firefighter I & II; 2) Hazmat Awareness; 3) Hazmat Operations; 4) Hazmat Technician; 5) Driver Operator Pumper; 6) Driver Operator Aerial; 7) Driver Operator Mobile Water Supply; These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also the following certifications are required, Emergency Medical Technician; Emergency Vehicle Operators; and CPR certification. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. The position often requires irregular hours. This position requires evening and weekend work. Several vacancies may be filled.
