Job Description:
Metro State University, Minnesota's public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Director of Talent Management. This is a full-time position within the Human Resources team under the Human Resources and Employee Experience Division.
The Director of Talent Management provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Metro State's comprehensive talent lifecycle, including workforce planning, classification and compensation, recruitment strategy, employee development, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness. The role requires balancing long-term vision with hands-on execution to strengthen both academic and administrative excellence. Deep expertise in higher-education HR, classification and compensation systems, labor-relations frameworks, and innovative talent-development models is essential to advancing institutional goals.
Serving a diverse population of adult working students, Metro State operates within a highly complex labor environment with multiple collective bargaining agreements. The Director ensures all talent strategies align with the University's mission, financial sustainability, shared governance principles, and strict compliance with personnel laws, regulations, and union contracts. This includes administering recruitment and hiring processes for all classified and unclassified positions, interpreting labor agreements and policies, and maintaining centralized position and recruitment documentation.
In addition, the Director leads the development and implementation of the University's Affirmative Action Plan and promotes equitable, inclusive employment practices across the institution. The role partners with HR staff and campus leaders to diversify talent pools, strengthen search committee effectiveness, support employee engagement and retention initiatives, and ensure data-driven decision-making related to workforce outcomes. The position also provides confidential, high-level analytical and administrative support within the Human Resources and Employee Experience division, contributing to continuous improvement and organizational strength.
Salary Range:
$32.81- $49.39/hour depending upon experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose application materials clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:
Three years professional HR experience; Bachelors in HR or related field may substitute for 1 year experience and Masters in HR or related field may substitute for 2 years of experience. Experience with federal and Minnesota employment and personnel laws and rules.
Strong analytical skills involving data analysis, data management and use of metrics and analytics to drive decisions.
Experience in building trusting and collegial relationships, using ability to collaborate to find creative, timely, and effective solutions.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Office 365, Microsoft Suite, including SharePoint, MS Teams and MS Forms.
Preferred Qualification:
PHR or SPHR certification.
Previous supervising or leadership experience
Previous Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, or State of Minnesota Human Resource experience.
Experience in labor and employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, classification concepts, human resource information systems (HRIS), talent acquisition, and performance management.
Physical Requirements:
Light: Requires occasionally transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or transporting light objects frequently. The position may require movement throughout building(s) to a significant degree.
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work):
Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
