Summary About the Position: This position serves as a Command Information Specialist for the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command located at Redstone Arsenal, AL. The Army's Face to the World, the one-stop focal point for Army FMS, and the international partner of choice in U.S. Security Assistance. Responsibilities Advise the Commander, Deputy, and Chief of Staff, Directors, and business leaders on strategic initiatives, communications goals, and objectives. Provide advice to the command in discussions and meetings with Army and DoD officials, making decisions or commitments on public affairs issues with established policy. Evaluate the effectiveness of short and long range planning and programs designed to meet the goals set out in the Command's strategic plan. Review speeches, remarks, articles, and briefing material for the Commander, other senior officials, staff assistants, and others appearing before both private and public groups at briefing sessions, Prepare and conduct briefings on Command direction changes and strategic initiatives through meetings and training sessions. Maintain working relationships with individuals holding opposing points of view and conflicting interests in facilitating development of the Strategic Communications Plans. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Advising leaders on strategic initiatives, communications goals, and objectives; 2) Assisting commanders and staff directors in developing strategies that support the goals and objectives of the Command; 3) Analyzing conflicting data to summarize recommendations or program changes; 4) Maintaining liaison with public relations personnel of the other organizations; AND 5) Developing speeches, briefings, memorandums, pamphlets, booklets. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
