Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description

Under direct supervision, the Medical Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. The role involves promoting efficient patient flow and patient care, including exams and procedures. Additionally, the Medical Assistant performs clinic support tasks such as clerical duties, answering phones, and maintaining the physician's schedule. Adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards, is essential.

Responsibilities

Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.

Record patient data before each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.

Obtain all necessary patient records as required by the physician before treatment or procedures.

Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.

Assist physicians with documentation and set up for exams and procedures.

Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.

Respond to patients' calls as requested.

Perform other administrative duties, such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception.

Alert nurse/physician of abnormal vitals and any important information given by the patient.

Collect inbound meaningful use data, including flu documentation and initial height and weight.

Print the medication list for the patient to review.

Fill out disability forms.

Schedule blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, and order special tests.

Enter orders under a provider's direction and supervision.

Essential Skills

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.

Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.

Experience in patient care, customer service, and electronic medical records (EMR).

Proficiency in medical terminology and blood pressure measurement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Certified Medical Assistant credential preferred.

Some state regulations may require specific certifications to work as a Medical Assistant.

Work Environment

This position is based in an oncology office with working hours from Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The role requires standing and walking for extensive periods and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs. The work environment demands a full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Vision and hearing must be corrected to normal range.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Silver Spring, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
