Job Purpose:
The Electrical Liaison Engineer position will be based at the Locomotive Final Assembly plant in Muncie, IN. The engineer will work directly with Manufacturing to identify and resolve engineering design issues during the production process. This position focuses primarily on Product Design and Product Application. The Liaison Engineer is the front-line build support for the electrical applications team to the factory. Additionally, the engineer will participate in design reviews and ensure design for manufacturability concepts have been utilized and match capabilities of the production line. The engineer will coordinate current and future locomotive model engineering designs with manufacturing and maintain daily communication between Manufacturing and Design. The position will drive cycle time reduction, increased capacity, and cost out benefits by improving the manufacturability of the designs provided by Locomotive Design Engineering.

Work directly with Manufacturing to identify and resolve engineering design issues
Define and implement corrective actions for engineering issues identified in the production environment
Troubleshoot electrical issues identified on new systems
Hands on issue management, including reworking electrical parts and applications as needed
Participate in locomotive model design reviews
Identify any/all design issues which would negatively impact manufacturing
Document and communicate manufacturing improvement opportunities to design engineering
Review and drive improvement in design and drawings created by engineering
Match designs to manufacturing capabilities (internal or external suppliers)
Work with Suppliers & Supplier Quality to integrate supplier input into designs
Analyze the total cost of assembling components to drive improved make/buy decisions
Identify and facilitate standardization techniques at station level subsystems
Use re-engineering data (MCR's) to drive improved designs and reduced rework
Simplify and standardize engineering drawing nomenclature
Support Design For Manufacturing (DFM) by providing feedback to Design Engineering teams
Support Built In Quality (BIQ) efforts by RCCA investigation of design issues found in manufacturing
Qualifications and Experience:
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, including manufacturing personnel.
Ability to effectively manage multiple issues concurrently. High level of organization and strong sense of prioritization
Strong root cause problem-solving abilities and experience addressing complex technical problems.
Above average electrical troubleshooting skills
Basic understanding of locomotive assembly and engineering design concepts
Ability to read and understand locomotive electrical schematics and application drawings.
Knowledge of electrical systems and electrical components; shop level locomotive experience beneficial
Proficiency in computer programs relevant to assigned position, e.g., TeamCenter, NX Unigraphics, SAP, ERP LN 10.7, as well as Progress Rail specific programs and applications
Ability to read and understand specification and standards documents; proficient in interpreting engineering drawings
Knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts
High level of mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
Ability to work independently yet consistently execute to job schedules and milestone date
Ability to travel as required

Strength - Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial
environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting (up to 30 pounds);
Motion - Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment;
Vision/Hearing Requirements - Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;
Work Environment - Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;
Emotional Demands - Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires attention to detail while sustaining very high standards;
Safety - Position is not safety sensitive but requires the use of all PPE adherence to Safety Policies (blue flag etc.) when working in the field or industrial areas.
