About DOER The Department of Energy Resources' (DOER) mission is to create a clean, affordable, resilient, and equitable energy future for all in the Commonwealth. As the State Energy Office, DOER is the primary energy policy agency for the Commonwealth. DOER supports the Commonwealth's clean energy goals as part of a comprehensive Administration-wide response to the threat of climate change. DOER focuses on transitioning our energy supply to lower emissions, reducing and shaping energy demand, and improving our energy system infrastructure. To meet our objectives, DOER connects and collaborates with energy stakeholders to develop effective policy. DOER implements this policy through planning, regulation, and providing funding. DOER provides tools to individuals, organizations, and communities to support their clean energy goals. Job Description The Energy Efficiency Intern will support the Energy Efficiency Division in its work in supporting education on the Commonwealth's recently updated building energy codes and its review of projects under the Massachusetts Environmental Protection Act (MEPA), as well as other division work in its development of programs and policies to decarbonize existing buildings. Responsibilities: Compile and analyze data relating to new building developments subject to MEPA project review to develop data supported trends and review MEPA's impacts on the Commonwealth's building decarbonization efforts. Prepare succinct presentation materials that convey MEPA impacts. Assist in collating questions from code users to the stretch code inbox to build and update the FAQ section on the DOER website. Assist in development of educational materials related to the division's work, including but not limited to programs supporting adoption of energy efficiency and clean energy technologies. Participate in internal agency and external stakeholder meetings. Contribute to additional projects across the energy efficiency division as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Interest in building energy and climate policy. Interest in architecture, planning, engineering, or energy policy. Good analytical and data management skills. Graphic presentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office - particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Research experience __ Other relevant information: Hourly rate: $18.00/hour for College Undergraduate Students and $28.00/hour for Graduate Students. Internship duration: June 1, 2026 - August 14, 2026 Hours per week: Full time - 37.5 hours per week This position is partially remote with a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of one day in-office per week. Architecture students pursuing NCARB licensure may earn required AXP Experience hours under a DOER staff licensed Architect mentor.
