JOB DESCRIPTION
Looking to build real-world analytical experience this summer? Delta Dental is hiring three Undergraduate Interns to join our Underwriting team!
This internship is designed for sophomore and junior students who are curious, analytical, and interested in learning how risk assessment and financial decision-making drive business strategy. You'll gain hands-on experience, work alongside experienced underwriting professionals, and develop practical skills that translate directly into careers in finance, actuarial science, analytics, and insurance.
No prior underwriting experience required - just a strong foundation in math, a willingness to learn, and a collaborative mindset!
RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze client-specific data to help assess risk and develop rate recommendations for small prospect cases.
Learn and apply underwriting concepts to real business scenarios.
Participate in peer review discussions and collaborate with team members.
Partner with sales and internal teams to understand underwriting decisions.
Support special projects and testing initiatives based on your interests and skill level.
Attend team and department meetings to gain exposure to the broader business.
High-performing interns may have the opportunity to continue part-time in the fall, based on business needs and fit.
We offer flexible work options:
Remote for interns located more than 50 miles (or one hour) from a local office. (Camp Hill, PA; Alpharetta, GA; Oakland, CA)
Hybrid for interns within 50 miles (or one hour) of a local office (Camp Hill, PA; Alpharetta, GA; Oakland, CA) with in-person collaboration at least once per month. Hybrid interns are encouraged to participate in team-building, volunteer, and social events throughout the summer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current sophomore or junior at an accredited college/university and in good standing.
Major or coursework in mathematics, finance, actuarial science, accounting, or a related analytical field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
Availability to work Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (local time zone).
Available to start mid-May or early June.
Base Pay Information
The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications, and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
Pay Grade 16. $45,400 - $95,000
