Job Title: Entry Level Utility Technician

Job Description

We are seeking two entry-level Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technicians to join our team. Individuals with a background in surveying or related fields are encouraged to apply and will be provided with comprehensive training.

Responsibilities

Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes impacting the survey.

Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize work efforts.

Ensure the standard of work performed is high, and derive necessary field calculations from completed tasks.

Oversee the maintenance of instruments and equipment.

Ensure accuracy and compliance of collected data such as angles and distances with regulations and standards.

Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and other stakeholders.

Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to gather necessary data.

Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.

Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.

Complete daily logs and expense reports.

Fill out company or client safety forms and ensure all crew members follow safety procedures.

Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.

Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and the use and care of survey tools and field equipment.

Proficiency in operating survey equipment such as Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various GPS methods.

Essential Skills

High School diploma or GED.

At least 1 years of related experience

Willingness to travel.

Proficiency with survey equipment such as total stations and GPS.

Experience working outside regularly, preferably in extreme conditions.

Willingness to work on a vacuum excavation truck for utility locating.

Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.

Ability to pass a drug test.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in subsurface utility engineering (utility designating & locating) is preferred.

Good technical skills; process-oriented, steady, helpful, honest, trustworthy, adaptable, analytical, problem-solver.

Ability to work alone when required, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, precise, dislikes mistakes and enjoys structure.

Work Environment

The position is based out of Raleigh, NC, with a majority of time spent in the field. Travel within the region (NC, SC, VA) may be required, with compensation for overnight stays if necessary. The primary workload is within a daily commute, with travel expectations set at approximately 60%.

This is a Permanent position based out of Raleigh, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
