Overview
This position is responsible for performing, under supervision, engineering work but with limited direct responsibility. This position is within the Ghent Engineering group and will focus on supporting the generating station with mechanical related project work. This position will be filled according to the candidates qualification and experience.
Responsibilities
Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods.
Gathers, correlates, and analyzes specific data using established procedures.
Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests and analysis.
Performs a variety of routine tasks to become familiar with the engineering methods, practices, and programs of the Company.
Supports operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis, troubleshooting, problem identification, problem resolution activities.
Assists other engineering disciplines with large projects, as needed.
Assists with the development of station/engineering goals, objectives, budgets, programs and procedures.
Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free work place.
Conducts work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations.
Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Occasionally directs the activities of coops, contract employees and others, as they perform various activities including installation or checkout of new equipment, troubleshooting, testing, tuning, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
Engineer I:
ABET Accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
Engineer II:
ABET Accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience.
Engineer III:
ABET Accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering plus 5 years of engineering experience, or a master's degree in engineering plus 3 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience.
Principal Engineer:
ABET Accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering plus 10 years of engineering experience, or a master's degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience.
Preferred Experience
Ability to use formal engineering training in practical application to power plant assignments.
Understanding of steam thermal cycle and power plant fundamentals.
Experience managing a range of projects from small to large including developing schedules, managing budgets, overseeing construction through to completion.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate technical issues and solutions to broad audiences.
